In Corissia hotel we stayed in June 2010 (instead of Georgioupolis Beach hotel which was not open yet). Corissia group consists of 3 buildings – Corissia Princess hotel(****), Corissia Beach hotel (***+) and Studios (***+). These studios have its own name (unfortunately I forgot it) so maybe are rented by Corissia Beach hotel only. We were accommodated in Studios building which is located approximately 100 meters from Corissia Beach towards a beach. Our studio No205 was equipped with an A/C, a TV set, a refrigerator, an electric kettle, a cooker in a kitchen desk and a microwave oven (dishes and cutlery too) and a balcony (2 chairs, a desk and a clothehores) with a view of a staircase, a restaurant and mountains. Beds, bathroom and other facilities were fair ones. I estimate both towels and bed linen were changed twice a week and the whole room was clean and tidy. This studio has the only two disadvantages: you can hear all other guests going upstairs along your balcony in the night because the staircase is made from metal and resonates with steps. The second matter is a big fan downstairs. The fan cools a shop at groundfloor and produces noise and hot air all the night. Regarding mosquitos – yes, they were there. Dead on walls (as residues after previous guests) and live in the air. I recommend to take a bug repellent electric with you in June.
On the contrary a marvellous matter is meal. Hotel guests from all three buildings go to breakfast and dinner to Corissia Park restaurant and their offer is really wonderful. Over eight main dishes, plenty of fruits, cheeses, cakes and ice creams which you can enjoy at the pool or on a terrace or in a main dining hall. In short the meal was one of the best what we have experienced in Crete (together with Apladas hotel in Platanias).
The city beach lies about 50 meters from studios. This beach is a litte muddy and I recommend you to go to the right and to ford a cold stream. You will see a very long beach there with beautiful sand, parasols made from palm leaves and a very likeable and talkative life guard (and fee collector too) in the second part of the beach (with a taverna Blue Boat). There is no weed in the sea and a sea bed descent is OK so you need not go hundred meters to be able to dive youself. One interesting thing – due to the cold stream flows to the sea there is a 10 cm of cold (and fresh) water-layer above warm sea water there.
Georgioupolis is a small village and its centre with many tavernas and shops lies about 100 meters from the hotel. From there you can go to the bus station on the motorway (app. 300 meters) and go by bus to Rethimno (to the left) or Chania (to the right) towns. One-way ticket costs 3 Euro. The air-conditioned bus goes every 1 hour and both towns are really worth seeing - especially their old centres.
If I should evaluate this place I appreciate the beautiful beach, good location between Rethimno and Chania towns and a satisfactory accomodation (with marvellous meals) for a satisfactory price.
