“Beautiful place with excellent service, but a little bit quite and far away from anything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We first got a bungalow close to the beach. Very nice location but the humidity was very high AC was very bad. We the changed to a bungalow by the main pool.

Rooms was very clean but the beds was a litle bit hard.

The buffet restaurants are average and not very exciting. Not much of Greek food. The restaurant by the beach is very nice in the sunset.

All in all a very nice resort with excellent service. Ideal if you just want to relax for a week but a little but far from anything interesting to see, so not the place if you want to see Crete and the "real" Greece.

Room Tip: The bungalows close to the beach have very poor air condition

“Crowded and boring...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

First of all it is not a five star resort, I would give 3 max 4 stars. Let me start with good things: great pool area(s), spa, lots of activity for children, the beach is great! Also family suite was great for us as there was a separate bed room for children. Downsides: queues to breakfast and dinner, loud and busy breakfast/dining areas, boring dinners (ok buffet starters but main courses are really bad, everything overcooked or tasteless (you can get better food in local tavernas nearby), level of service/friendliness of staff, boring evening entertainment (well if you like 1980's you might enjoy or take is a camp humour). In summary: ok for a family holiday but don't expect a 5-start treat. I would never go as a couple.

Room Tip: Get a beach front villa and use beach-side restaurant to avoid crowds.

“Enjoyable stay at the Pilot Beach resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Am just back from Crete (stayed from 8th til 15th October) and can happily say that I spent an enjoyable week at the Pilot Beach Resort. The resort is well kept (beautiful gardens and several swimming-pools) but also provides a wide variety of food. For breakfast, the american buffet is absolutely divine as well as the dinner buffet which provides local delicacies as well as international dishes.
The staff (waiters and receptionists) is polite and is keen to help. We had to change rooms as the building got flooded because of heavy rains and the move was very smoothly run.

However I ought to be as objective and honest as possible and I would say that I am disappointed with a few things : the room is not furnished to the standard you would expect in a 5 star hotel. The furnitures are very basic (old tv, no british channels but plenty of German channels!), the extra blanket stinked and the mattress was not very comfortable.
The bathroom is rather large with a marble-tiled floor but unfortunately not done to a nice finish. Also the toiletries provided is not of good quality (again not up to the standard you would expect from the 5 star hotel).

But please don't be put off by the description of the room and bathroom as the hotel is a lovely place to stay at. You even get a gift (a bottle of local olive oil) when you leave the hotel which is a very kind gesture.

Finally I would not recommend any travellers to go to Crete in October as the weather starts to change for the worse... expect heavy rains and thunderstorms!

Room Tip: rooms near the swimming-pools are quieter than the rooms on the beach side.

“An exceptional hotel”

We spent 7 nights in this true 5 star hotel. We were lucky enough to have booked a room beach side (unknowingly). The resort is extremely well kept, very clean and the service is excellent, and nothing is too much for them. We found the food excellent and being half board we could choose from any of the 4 restaurants which was great. Defintely go back again!!

This hotel is amazing !! The service in the resturants was unbelievable. The hotel is so clean ,everyone is friendly, just the best hotel i've stayed in.
We went as a family ,2 kids aged 10 and 7.
The kids loved it .There are so many pools to choose from and the sea is not to rough and the sand is like cake flour!!!
If amnyone complains about this hotel they are just fussy!!!
There is absolutely nothing to complain about.
