“Great Place”

The Chateaux was lovely, very impressive. Unfortunately we tried to find it without a street map or Sat Nav and got lost!! However the owner kindly came to find us.

Unfortunately we did not get the room I booked as it had been allocated to someone else. It was still very nice but I was slightly dissapointed as I had booked it 2 months prior.

Breakfast was very nice and served on a table with the other guests.

  • Liked — It had its own vineyard
  • Disliked — Allocated wrong room

“Wish we could have stayed longer”

We booked this hotel at the last minute on a road trip through France. Marie-Christine was very kind over the phone and was more than willing to book us for a night.

When we arrived Alain greeted us and showed us to our room. Our French is very bad and Alain spoke almost no english but he was very kind and made every effort to help us understand him. He recommended a wonderful restaurant in nearby St. Emilion and his directions were great.

Our room was lovely with a wooden beam ceiling and the prettiest bathroom I've ever seen. Even the toilet was pretty.

In the morning we were greeted with a simple breakfast of a huge crossaint, and coffee or tea and delicious grape juice.

Alain then took us on a small tour of their wine making facility and concluded it with a wine tasting.

Overall our stay was wonderful and it left me wishing we could stay longer.

“Needs attention”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2008

Stayed here for a couple of days as we toured the vignobles of Pomerol and St. Emilion. Facilities were OK but not up to the standard of other B and B's we stayed in during our tour of France. No one there when we arrived, though owner came within 20 minutes when we phoned. Main reason we wouldn't go back was that the room wasn't clean and fresh - nothing had been dusted for some time. It was more expensive than other B and Bs and stretching the imagination to call it a "Chateau".

  • Liked — The breakfast was fine
  • Disliked — Room was not clean

“Top class chateaux”

We stayed here in September for three nights and I must say the service and the room were top class. It is located in Fronsac about 20 mins drive from bordeaux and 20 mins from St emillion in the wine region. It is right in the middle of their vineward and you see the vines when you open your windows. The hostess is superb and the rooms are beautiful. I would recommend this accomodation to anyone. We had a 6 month old baby with us and there was no problem staying there. There is also reviews under Chateaux La Closerie de Fronsac which may be the same place. In my opinion it is nicer to stay in the country than in the city. Fronsac does not have anything but there was a lovely restaurant about 2 mins drive from the chateaux

“An Elegant Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2007

La Closerie du Fronsac is a 350 year old house on a small vineyard that has been beautifully restored. We happened upon an ad for it in a locally published guide to the St. Emillion area. What good fortune on our part! Our room, booked at the last minute was charming, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. Madame Aguerre, who personally oversaw restoration of the house and decorated it over a 20 year period, showed us the other rooms which are just as refined and as elegant as Madame herself. When we return we would love to stay in the Art Nouveau room, which is incredibly beautiful.

Breakfast is served in a lovely living area rich in restored timbers, beautiful furnishings and artwork. We ate one of the best baguettes we had tasted in our three weeks in France. We also took a walk along the quiet vineyard path just outside the door and bought a bottle of the lovely wine that we tasted.

La Closerie du Fronsac is located in St. Michel du Fronsac which is a quiet town about 12 minutes from St. Emillion; you have the proximity without the crowds. It is also just outside of Libourne and the TGV to Paris which was important to us. We did not want to drive into Bordeaux to return our car and catch the train.

My husband and I have been to France a number of times. We would most certainly want to make a visit to La Closerie du Fronsac again in the future. For us it was a glimpse into the timeless elegance, dignity, and character of France.
