Overall, the hotel needs a refurbishment. However, except one problem with the heat (not working during the night, but we've been told it is not their policy and they are trying to fix it) we had a good experience and we found the hotel to be quite ok.
We arrived in a cold but nice winter day in Bergen. The hotel is composed of several 1 floor buildings close to the main one (where the restaurant is located). We have asked in our reservation for a particular room, as it had good reviews on TripAdvisor. The building where we stayed (actually the term house would be more appropriate) is located just opposite the restaurant, so it was quite convenient going for breakfast.
The pluses
The location is excellent for a nature lover. Central but still quiet.
Room: Good size room, enough space for a baby cot. We had our own cot, otherwise you can have one from the hotel for 7,50 per night. The room had a sofa and a chair, with a low table in between; also a desk with Internet (Ethernet cable).
The room had two big heaters and the temperature was ok most of the time. However we discovered that during the night no heat was provided.
Also, everything was provided for making a tea or instant coffee - except the tea itself.
We had a Jacuzzi in our bathroom (which we used only once, despite our initial enthusiasm). Also there was a separate shower.
Food: We only had breakfast in hotel's restaurant, and we appreciate the fruit salad as very good!
Free parking! (rare in Holland)
The minuses
No heat during the night (23.30 to 5.30).
Two double beds, a real double bed would have been nice.
One set of lights (above the wardrobe) was not working.
One spot in the bathroom was not functioning. The heater in the bathroom was only partially working.
The parking is free, but only for about 15 cars, otherwise cheap (3,50 per day) in the street - but the street is narrow and the hotel has 90 rooms.
The receptionist in our last day was having limited information about their fidelity programme, despite having flyers and subscription forms all over the hotel - so sign up online if you are interested in Best Western's fidelity programme ;-) However we did received our fidelity card in the mail about a month later, which means the receptionist finally figured out where to send our subscription form.
The city is small but very nice, lots of cozy restaurants and pubs. We have visited the Zee Aquarim, a few km away (free parking during low season!) and had a short walk on the beach. The city of Alkmaar is also worth a visit - we went for the famous cheese market only to discover it is only during the summer!
