“Dreadful, dreadful hotel”

Originally booked in for 2 nights we left after 1! The room 114, is tiny and not up to basic minimum standards. It was filthy and clearly hadn't been properly cleaned before we arrived. Toe nail cuttings(!) on the floor from previous occupant, thick black mould all around the shower cubicle (no bath in this room) and all door furniture was disgustingly stained and marked. The bed was terrible with springs coming through making a decent nights sleep impossible.
Communal areas are definitely grubby - the windowsill in the corridor had a dirty coffee cup on it - not the hotel staff fault as it could have been left by a guest. What was inexcusable was the cup was removed in the morning but the windowsill was not cleaned - there were a number of sticky coffee rings all over it!
Had to leave 1 star as not allowed to leave none!
Only saving grace was the hotel agreed to refund the cost of our second night and the manager on duty appeared to take our complaints seriously but fact remains she is not clearly not managing this hotel properly.
Finally if you are tempted to eat in the Toby next door - don't bother. Tepid food cooked for the masses and dire service from waitresses who are more concerned about the shifts they have been allocated than trying to serve any customers.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere - the Travelodge at Yardley is significantly better,

having stopped here from the 30th january 2012 for one week in room 214 it got from bad to worse. they was no heating in our room and complained the next day. I was given a portable heater as the central heating from the radiators did not work. this was inappropriate as we was working at the NEC and the weather was plumber ting to -5 and i could not go back to a warm room as staff switched it off during the day. Next thing that happened was an electrical fire in the hotel and we had to evacuate at 11pm. I went back to my room and they was no power going to the electric sockets hence once again i had no heat in my room so i complained . first they told me they had no other rooms so i told them i refuse to stop in a cold room when i have been at work all day. they offered me another hotel by now this was 2am. and i was not happy. Then they decided to put me in the disabled accommodation which was ok it had heat from the radiators but still no power in sockets but i was not bothered as i had heat. After a short nights sleep i went to work and arrived back at the hotel approx 9pm and noticed the car park was empty.Went into reception and told hotel has closed due to electrical fire need to pack our bags as we have been moved 2miles up the road to there other hotel which was fine but no resturant or other food outlets near by but the rooms was great. awoke the next day went to get my van and had to pay for overnight parking and was not willing to refund at reception even thou parking was free at the previous hotel.. overall i would say is i had a very poor service ...... A joseph huddersfield

Room Tip: dont choose room 214

“Grotty shag pad!!!! they shouldnt charge people to stay there”

Folks please read this as im not one for giving terrible reviews. only where due and trust me this one is due. The travelodge was taken over in November 2011. they havent done anything to it apart from a bit of re branding. only plus side was there was ample parking and there was a nice Toby Carvery nextdoor for evening meals.

The room as the title says was a smelly, grotty stained room and looked like something from the movies where a lady of the night may be taken on a tight budget.... The sheets were stained, the shower was disgusting with black mould all round the tiles and doors to the point you felt more dirty using it.

The travelodge internet site advises of noise from the road but thats not the issue realy its the fact the windows are so poor you can hear everything wich the windows shut. we were at the back and we could still hear the road clear as day.

Im not going to rant on ill leave you with a simple recommendation:
If your looking for accomodation close to BHX & are thinking of staying here..."DONT"!!!!

Room Tip: ask the local tramp for a spare cardboard box, probably cleaner!!!!!

“seems fine”

We have just stayed at the travel lodge in Sheldon and had a family room.

The family rooms are located onthe 3rd floor and there are 4 of them. The e rooms are at the front of the hotel and face towards a main road. They have recently been fitted with new double glazed windows and reduce external noise considerably. These rooms look over one of the car parks and there is some noise from the cars and people who are leaving the pub as well as people drinking outside.

If you park in the car park they give you a ticket to place in your car window for the duration of your stay. There are plenty of spaces.

I did not see a lift so be aware if you have lots of luggage to take upstairs!

Our room was clean and decorated nicely. Not fancy but for a family room spacious and ultimately cheap. Thre were a few things you could grumble about but all in all good. Staff are attentive and helpful.

Do not have the hotel breakfast, it is very small, go for the full english in the carvery as you get a whole lot more for the extra 95p!!

The hotel is located close to the NEC and is only 20 minutes out of the city centre.

The only thing I would advise is that the rooms by one of the entrances to the carvery have single glazed windows and they must suffer with noise. Make sure you ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back of the hotel or a family room.

“Budget clean hotel”

Stayed here for a convention in centre of Birmingham, being a Travelodge you know what to expect, cheap basic accomodation. The Toby Carvery down stairs is very convenient for breakfast and an evening meal. Plenty of parking spaces and my room was comfortable and clean. The hotel in on a major bus route into the city centre and for £10 a night what more could you ask for.

Room Tip: As for a room around the back as they are quieter.
