“Grotty shag pad!!!! they shouldnt charge people to stay there”

Folks please read this as im not one for giving terrible reviews. only where due and trust me this one is due. The travelodge was taken over in November 2011. they havent done anything to it apart from a bit of re branding. only plus side was there was ample parking and there was a nice Toby Carvery nextdoor for evening meals.

The room as the title says was a smelly, grotty stained room and looked like something from the movies where a lady of the night may be taken on a tight budget.... The sheets were stained, the shower was disgusting with black mould all round the tiles and doors to the point you felt more dirty using it.

The travelodge internet site advises of noise from the road but thats not the issue realy its the fact the windows are so poor you can hear everything wich the windows shut. we were at the back and we could still hear the road clear as day.

Im not going to rant on ill leave you with a simple recommendation:
If your looking for accomodation close to BHX & are thinking of staying here..."DONT"!!!!

Room Tip: ask the local tramp for a spare cardboard box, probably cleaner!!!!!

“seems fine”

We have just stayed at the travel lodge in Sheldon and had a family room.

The family rooms are located onthe 3rd floor and there are 4 of them. The e rooms are at the front of the hotel and face towards a main road. They have recently been fitted with new double glazed windows and reduce external noise considerably. These rooms look over one of the car parks and there is some noise from the cars and people who are leaving the pub as well as people drinking outside.

If you park in the car park they give you a ticket to place in your car window for the duration of your stay. There are plenty of spaces.

I did not see a lift so be aware if you have lots of luggage to take upstairs!

Our room was clean and decorated nicely. Not fancy but for a family room spacious and ultimately cheap. Thre were a few things you could grumble about but all in all good. Staff are attentive and helpful.

Do not have the hotel breakfast, it is very small, go for the full english in the carvery as you get a whole lot more for the extra 95p!!

The hotel is located close to the NEC and is only 20 minutes out of the city centre.

The only thing I would advise is that the rooms by one of the entrances to the carvery have single glazed windows and they must suffer with noise. Make sure you ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back of the hotel or a family room.

“Budget clean hotel”

Stayed here for a convention in centre of Birmingham, being a Travelodge you know what to expect, cheap basic accomodation. The Toby Carvery down stairs is very convenient for breakfast and an evening meal. Plenty of parking spaces and my room was comfortable and clean. The hotel in on a major bus route into the city centre and for £10 a night what more could you ask for.

Room Tip: As for a room around the back as they are quieter.

“Not as bad as I expected...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

Having read some of the other reviews here, I was apprehensive when friends booked this because our preferred local guest house was full, so I was relieved to find that my room (123) was clean and comfortable (though the plastic sheet under the other bedding felt a bit odd!), even if the most modern thing in it was the large TV. Only two pillows provided for the double bed.
The bathroom wasn't finished to the greatest of standards, but again it was clean - one hand towel, one bath sheet and one small tablet of soap provided. The shower was powerful but isn't adjustable for height or angle (same in other rooms, I was told) and the hot/cold adjuster was hard to turn. Because of the way the shower head faced, you couldn't avoid getting water over the floor when turning it on with the shower doors open (which had to be done unless you wanted to step into a freezing jet of water, since you couldn't adjust the shower position) and there was no bathmat - I had to use the smaller of the two towels on the first morning and although I put it out for replacement, I didn't get another.
This room faces the main road but there's a car park in between so the noise wasn't too bad, but a lot of light comes in even with drawn curtains so if you need complete darkness to sleep, don't go on this side.
Only met two members of staff, but they were friendly and pleasant enough and when we booked in, the lady made an effort to see if our rooms were close to each other and make a change if not.
We didn't use the carvery so I can't comment on it.
I'd probably use this place again if I could book one of the rooms we used this time.

“Handy hotel for NEC”

I've stayed here for three years now, since before it was a Travelodge. The reception facilities have been improved, and the Toby Carvery is as convenient as ever. Plenty of easy parking, and a comfortable room. Just one complaint - I'd really like a proper breakfast, not an offer of a breakfast bag!
