“Central location and good service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We needed to book a hotel near to a wedding we were attending. We were quite surprised how expensive all the hotels in this area were. Parking was easy and free and check-in was fast and efficient. Downstairs the hotel is delightful, suggest you have a drink or snack in the lounge with its array of clocks and colourful comfy chairs. The rooms we stayed in was very small and had a slight smell of cigarettes which was fairly unpleasant. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with plenty of towels and lots of hot water. No iron in the room but as soon as we asked one was delivered. Lots of choice at breakfast and also a vegetarian option. The pub across the road could be a problem at the weekends if you like peace and quiet, we could hear the music from our room above the courtyard and our friends who stayed at the front of the hotel were disturbed into the early hours.

“could do better overpriced and cold”

stayed 4/1/12 first room offered - room 4 more suitable as a single room it is tiny and cluttered. 2nd room taken room 5 two light bulbs not working and this made room a bit dark. there is no lift at this hotel and lots of stairs - not disabled friendly.

Food advertised in room booklet was not available.

So ordered off the main menu in restaurant when food arrived even this had part of the advertised dish missing and no refund against the price which we felt was high for such poor value £21 approx for just the main course.

Breakfast ordered full english minus the black pudding and it arrived with 1 sausage 1 small rasher bacon no baked beans no fried bread 1 egg and half of a very small tomato no mushroom priced £11 approx poor value again in fact the breakfast looked lost on the plate.

Did not complain seemed no point and will definatly will never stay again

Room Tip: Do not stay here if you have walking problems lots of stairs and no ground floor rooms old building...

“Great place for a short break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Stayed for two nights having booked through a Buy a Gift voucher - this place is lovely. Loads of character. Food is very good, well presented and reasonably priced.

The only poor experience was when we asked for extra milk for tea in our room at 8:30 on Sunday and having been told by the evening receptionist that she would bring it to us - by 10pm we had to go down to reception to remind her only to find that her priority seemed to be having a conversation with somebody on some Social Networking site on the hotel's computer. Outside that, the level of customer service was absolutely first class with the staff being pleasant, and willing to help

Southwell itself is a really interesting place and worth a visit.

Would we make a repeat booking? Definitely.

“Lovely hotel if perhaps slightly overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Rooms are clean but dated.s

Stayed here to attend a wedding at Norwood Park a short walk away. The residents bar open late and night porter with dreads very happy to serve us.

Breakfast was excellent.

At £95 a night a bit pricey but not many alternatives close by. Would stay again.
