We booked this hotel as last minute decision, a day before arrival. Decision was based on appropriate weather forecast for Arlberg and reasonable price offer. And, of course, perfect location.
We stayed 4 nights. Here is short summary:
Greeting and introduction as well as handling of further requests by front-desk was perfect.
Ski room/ ski shop was a pleasant surprise.
Bordeaux collection and history of the hotel might be a reason for a visit for some people.
Owners are positioning themselves as experts of art.
Equipment in the room needs upgrade.
There is no internet in the rooms (not even through a cable). Which I completely don’t understand. User generated content- nice feedback on Twitter, happy faces on YouTube... None of that here, unfortunately...
Towel change - twice a day. In 21st century, unless you ask for it, that does not communicate Green Thinking.
SPA- up to standards. Massage was available with 3 hours notice only. Nice.
Fireplace is the heart of the hotel. Live music, make-it-yourself Bloody Marry. Also, the only place with wifi :-)
The Hotel is actively selling "Dine around menu" (4 different restaurants). It was certainly not worth it. One of the 4 restaurants was booked out for all week. Dinner in the main restaurant did not fit our taste. Skiclub Stube ... Men are only allowed in the place wearing jackets (ladies=no special requirements). I think owners don't understand that jacket is in no way a simbol of vacation for many people... I mean- you break away from all the boring business people you deal with every day, go to beautiful mountains expecting to wear your favourite Quicksilver/Protest/Burton/whatever outfit. And then you are not allowed into hotel's restaurant unless borrowing their formal jacket. Strange... But the desert was a piece of art.
On the positive side, Hospitz Alm was really excellent. Traditional Austrian+great service+tasty sauerkraut.
To sum up- if you replace twice-a-day towel change with presence of wireless internet and don't push black-tie on me, I might come back to Hospitz.
