“Friendly, and a great position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Have we finally found the perfect family-run ski hotel? Well, nearly. The Cappella is well positioned, ski-in and virtually ski-out, right on the Sella Ronda ski circuit and beside easy nursery and intermediate slopes, and so friendly, excellent value (especially compared to nearby Cortina d'Ampezzo), with comfortable rooms, delicious food and charming service. The proprietor even plays the accordion to his guests! It seems mean to carp. But there was one big drawback, namely, endless complications with Wi-fi. We were staying not in the main hotel, but 100 metres up the road in the Dependance. Here, internet was unobtainable. We had to go down to the hotel in the evenings to get our emails, but could only access them via a very complex log-in system. For one crucial evening, internet access was completely unavailable.
Two other pointers for future guests: in the early weeks of January this hotel is almost entirely occupied by Russian families. Also, Colfosco can easily become almost cut off. Getting away, we had to take a detour north to avoid snowed-up passes. And in early January the motorways become intensely crowded heading south at weekends. Our journey to the airport, that the hotel advised would take 3 hours, actually took 6. Result: we missed our flight.
Having said that, we hope to return to the Hotel Cappella next year.

“Outstanding and we will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

The hotel owners(Piccini family) were such gracious hosts and the staff did everything to make the place wonderful. Beautiful and plentiful food. Ski boots dry and warmed overnight. Many evenings with small cocktail celebrations and in addition a lovely art collection to please the eye. Its already been 6 months since we went skiing but I want to write this review since we can not forget what a marvelous hotel this was.

“Exceptional food, service, and location, and absolutely wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Cappella. I have stayed in many different hotels in the region, and this is without question one of the best in Sudtirol. The rooms are very clean, quiet, and comfortable. There is a lot of attention to little details, like toilets that flush silently, and room refrigerators that are insulated from noise. All staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Perhaps the most amazing thing, however, is the quality of the dinners. Absolutely top-notch gourmet cooking for every single course! I didn't have a single thing that I didn't like. The Pizzinini family is wonderful, and the love for their hotel and guests shows through in everything they do. Highly recommended.

“Friendly and charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We were planning a trip to Italy, and a friend raved about his stay a few years back at the Hotel Capella in the Dolomites. I've always wanted to see this area, so we planned our trip around this stay- the correspondence for the reservation was very prompt and helpful, and when we arrived we were pleased to be given a marvelous corner room (201) with balcony views to the south and east. The setting is awe-inspiring: it is hard to pull yourself away from staring slack-jawed at the dramatic crags of Alta badia. It actually reminded me a bit of Yosemite, except that the rock formations are carbonate instead of granite, and the valleys are gentle rolling green hills with small villages scattered about with immaculate chalets everywhere.

The hotel is extremely nice: the room was wood paneled and cosy, with incredibly soft sheets and duvets. If the outdoors wasn't so nice we might have stayed in more! A running joke with my wife was the exceptional house keeping- we never ran into anyone, but when we went out for a stroll or for supper we'd find the room all tidied up- even my wife's nightshirt was neatly folded and placed under her pillow. The score so far: awesome location, awesome room. The rest of the hotel is beautiful- a great bar, several different types of lounging areas, a patio in front for having drinks in the afternoon. The front desk always had a smiling face greeting you, and they helped us plan our day trips and even the drive logistics back down to our next vacation stop.

The food is wonderful here: just the antipasto/salad bar is enough for a meal- so many nice meats, cheeses, vegetable dishes, etc. The dining area has a great panoramic view of the valley. For breakfast there was a large selection to choose from, and you could also ask for an omelette, etc. if you didn't see something you wanted (which is unlikely). For dinner (we had a half-board that included breakfast and dinner) the selection of antipastos, pastas, and main courses changed every day and were pretty fabulous. Renate, the owner, is a sweet lady who came around and chatted with everyone each day.

I have nothing but great memories from our stay- I hope that we can return in the future. I worry about returning to places where we had a great time and being let down, but this hotel is so well-run that I know we'd enjoy it all over again.

Room Tip: ask for a corner room if you can, for a nice balcony view.
