Their web site says...'The management of the owner Nello, offers to a cheerful and youthful ambient, where the heat and the atmosphere do not lack the characteristic mountain shelter, with all the services of a hotel.'
Situation terrific only 100 or so metres from the top of the first lift. So how do you get your bags to the hotel. Well you carry them as far as I can see, as we had to do, maybe not a problem in summer but with all your ski gear in the snow, this is poor and if you had any older guests it would be a real issue. No 'cheery' don't worry we'll come and get you service.
Same old story with the heating in the bedrooms and I was questioned when I returned from ski-ing as to where the room key was. It was in my pocket..but I was made to feel like a cheat. I have never been anywhere in the Alps where you get cold bedrooms. It really is quite bizarre. They have however fixed the lounge heating with a very effective pellet heater.
Food - breakfast was good, no complaints here and the evening meals were not bad, even good, just occasionally a bit bizarre and I would have said unnecessarily complicated. You did have to eat however in candle light and frankly it's too dark for my tastes. I am sure they are trying to convey a romantic atmosphere but it just feels like they don't want to use a light bulb. I needed a head torch to read the menu and wine list.
My overall feeling was that I was being treated perfunctorily and as an aid to cash flow rather than as a guest. It seemed that rule one was 'don't use any electricity' and that was rule 2 as well. The young staff were professional but conveyed no cheery ambience that I was aware of. We even had the receptionist complaining (at 8.00pm as we were paying the bill) that she should have been off shift at 5.00pm....as if somehow I'm supposed to care.
I have to also say I do not like the process of leaving your room card in an open and unguarded slot by the front door. There are no safes in the room and anyone with can walk in during the ski-ing day, take one and enter any room without anyone seeing.
We didn't have a bad trip, and if this was a 2 star establishment, it wouldn't have felt bad but in a 3 star you expect some element of service culture and positive engagement with guests that was frankly lacking.
