We just returned from 4 nights at the Villa with our 10 and 14 yr. old boys. It was the end of a 12 day trip to Italy and a great place to rejuvenate after the frantic pace of Rome and Venice. We had a huge room with a fireplace that must have been one of the main rooms at one time in the Villa's history. The shuttered windows opened onto the front terrace and a great view of the surrounding hills. Our bathroom was across the hall and ours exclusively - we all adapted to having to leave the room to use the facilities and it was fine in the end. The infinity pool was a refreshing break after a day of touring in the area and we had nice meals at the restaurant on two of the nights there. The kids befriended the cats and dogs in residence at the hotel - Marco the kitten was a particular favorite. The Villa's setting in the hills was beautiful and the grounds were full of olive trees, apricots, grapes and what I think were pomegranates. In addition to a great place to unwind, the Villa was within easy distance of several day trips. We easily visited Pisa, Viareggio (for lunch on the beach) and Lucca in one day, drove to Florence for the museums and Ponte Vecchio for a day and, best of all, made an easy trip for a day exploring the Cinque Terre (not to be missed). The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast spread was ample and the modern conveniences made the stay in an historic building comfortable. Highly recommended!
