I stayed for four nights after finishing the Heaphy Track in November 2011. Betty and Dave Watson are the new managers and very good at what they do. I had a very enjoyable stay with great food, plenty of beer and friendly personal service. A most welcome place to stop and rest my weary bones. I encourage you to disregard any negative comments that others may have left after bad experiences, the new managers will have the place back to it's former glory in no time.... give them a go! I'll be back in a couple of months. Cheers!

I stayed for two nights before and after mountain biking the Heaphy Track. I found the rooms to be quite outdated and in need of maintenance. The light in the toilet did not work and the electric heater was very noisy and ineffective. The TV remote also did not work. The best thing about The Last Resort is the restaurant, which serves good food and wine at reasonable prices. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. If the rooms were only given some TLC it would be a much nicer place to stay.

We stayed there for one night at Lodge ensuite. The atmosphere was nice, it has fire at the lounge room. The only problem was the mattress was run down, the spring was not working and sank in the middle of the bed. For the price we paid, it was not a good value at all, it was very basic in the room, no fridge/toaster, fan heater only. I don't think we will come and stay there again.

It was very hard to get a hot shower, water temperature fluctuated form very hot to cold. Bed linen of inferior quality. Large amounts of waste timber from renovations outside motel units - a real eyesore!! Not a good image for a 'clean green' country. Restaurant meal and staff were of good quality. Very expsnsive at $130 per night, would be good value at $85.
