We stayed here for a week on our honeymoon in July 2009 before heading over to Aitutaki for a week and I must say this has been the most AMAZING holiday we have ever been on to date!!!
We were picked up promptly by our pre-arranged driver who took us to a small bungalow near our accommodation whilst our villa was being prepared (we landed before 9am local time so it was understandable that we would not be able to check in straight away). A breakfast had been prepared for us and left in the fridge which was perfect. We were then shown to our villa which was absolutely stunning!!! It was massive for just the two of us with an extra bedroom with huge bathroom, balcony etc upstairs. We had a massive monsoon shower bathroom downstairs and a gorgeous terrace on our very own part of Muri beach - totally and utterly INCREDIBLE!!! The beach was gorgeous with the whitest sands and most turquoise waters. We even had our very own pool and small waterfall in the front garden on the other side, which we didn't end up using because we were constantly drawn to the waters on Muri beach. The reef was stunning and great for some daily kayaking (kayaks were provided and could be found on our beach outside the villa).
We were delivered breakfast every morning with a fresh fruit smoothie and we would usually go out for lunch and dinner. We even had our own private chef come and cook us a three course meal one evening with champagne on our terrace (at an extra charge) - it was truly magical and definitely worth every penny.
There was a spa right by our villa where we were given a complimentary full body massage - it was fabulous and the masseuse was very good.
We hired a car from a nearby car rental which is highly recommended - the island is very small and it's great to take the car inland off the beaten track up to the mountainous regions - the views were utterly breathtaking! Having said that, it's very easy to walk into town or there are cheap buses which also stop along the road - just be careful when walking on the road at night as there are no pavements to walk on and no street lights!
We would highly recommend going to Trader Jacks in town, we tended to go there almost every evening for cocktails, the bar staff there were amazing and the atmosphere was fab. Rarotonga is a very quiet island with not much to do but relax and enjoy the exceptional natural beauty of the place, but Friday nights are the night to go out and party! We started off at Traders and went on to Whatever Bar before heading onto a club next door - it was fantastic dancing under the stars and the locals are sooo friendly!
All in all, it was the most memorable stay EVER and I will genuinely remember this for the rest of my life... Counting down the days until we go again!!!!!
Room Tip: We had one of the two villas that are right on Muri beach (not beside the beach)
