“Made Our Stay In Cappadocia!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Everything the other reviews said about the pleasure of staying here is true! I'm so glad we chose this small property for our time here. It is far enough away from the bustle of Gerome and Urgup, to really feel like we were getting a genuine experience of rural Turkish village life, rather than a touristic commercial experience. The drive to the sites was never a problem, and we saw some areas that otherwise might have felt too far from the main action.
Okan, our host was always ready to greet us with a smile when we arrived, and with answers to our questions, directions to off-the-beaten-track sites, and cultural information. We really enjoyed his willingness to discuss history, current events, sustainability, cuisine, farming . . . anything that came up.
The public space overlooking the town was inviting and one of the highlights of my six week trip was sitting there watching unseasonably early snow fall. My husband's highlight was walking around the town, seeing village life and talking with a local stone mason - with Okan's assistance as a translator.
The food was wonderful - truly a highlight of the trip. We eat seasonally, locally, usually from our own garden or CSAs at home, and it was a delight to enjoy home cooked, home grown foods. Every meal was great and very generously proportioned!
Okan's advice was spot-on from the first email he sent in reply to my inquiry to the advice to check out the farmer's market in Urgup as we left.
We are used to TemperPedic beds at home, so the surface of the mattress was a bit firm for us, but it is comparable to almost every other hotel bed. Please don't let that only minor reservation keep you from the stay of a life-time!

Room Tip: Our room over looked the town and it was nice seeing the chickens scratching in the yard, the villag...

A great family run lodge in a village about 15 minutes from Urgup. There are three rooms all of which are very nice. The family cooks the food for the restaurant and it was always pletiful, delicious and local. Okan was always helpful with good advice on what to visit and where to eat and is a great help in making arrangements. The Aravan Evi is a find for those who want contact with the people of Turkey and a great place to stay.

“Warm and unique hotel and restaurant”

My husband and I really love this hotel and definitely hope to go back.
Okan, the manager was very helpful responding to our emails even before we left for Turkey.
This hotel is run by the family. Okan's father was waiting at Kayseri airport to pick us up and it took about an hour to get to the hotel. Okan's mother is the cook and made us amazing homemade meals with fresh ingredients. We highly recommend having at least one dinner there. After such a great first dinner, we decided to have dinner on second night. The dishes were totally different each night and were all wonderful and fresh.
It was very romantic dinner spot.
Our room was very nice and spacious and the hotel was very peaceful. And, we rented a car which was the good way to see Cappadocia. Okan was very helpful arranging this and gave us good advice what to see and how to avoid tourist crowds.

We really liked Istanbul but we're glad we stayed at Arivan Evi, away from tourist crowds. The roads in Cappadocia are nice, so it was still easy to see everything (as long as you rent a car).

The nicest thing was the family atmosphere and you can feel the kindness of Turkey.
Hearing the stories of each meal and seeing the garden was amazing and made us feel very special. Okan and his family have a great attention to details.
My husband and I stayed hotels more than 30 countries and Aravan Evi was our favorite hotel experience.

“Best of Everything”

It wouldn't be a stretch to say staying at Aravan Evi was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. My husband and I stayed at this small hotel for five nights at the beginning of our vacation in Turkey and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Even before arriving in Cappadocia, I knew we were in for a treat because the hotel manager was able to answer every question we sent his way and responded to all emails within twenty-four hours. We felt like we knew him before we even arrived! Okan, the owner and manager of the hotel, arranged airport transfers, organized our hot air balloon ride, helped us rent a car, and gave us a private tour of his village and family property. All of this in addition to giving us daily recommendations on where to go and what to see. His knowledge of the area and connections with local business make Okan an invaluable resource and a top-notch hotelier. As if having such an excellent host weren't enough, Okan's family made us feel very welcome. Their hospitality was overwhelming! Our simple, but cozy room was kept impeccably clean and was the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. The room had a large, modern bathroom and all the other amenities you'd find in a four star hotel, including a mini bar stocked with complimentary drinks, slippers, etc. Okan's mother is also a fabulous cook and is known to be the best chef in town. Despite eating there night after night (it was that good!) she prepared different dishes every time, each better than the next. The meals were amazing, including the elaborate breakfasts fit for a sultan. Our Aravan Evi dining experience will go down as my absolute favorite of the whole trip! We will never forget our stay at this hotel and hope future guests enjoy it as much as we did!

“highlight of our trip”

Where to start - easy flight to Kayseri, Okan's father picked us up, and drove us to this small hotel in a small town, where Okan welcomed us and took us touring for the afternoon (while we pelted him with questions). Okan's mother cooked us wonderful, traditional meals, much of the food coming from their farm. Okan arranged for a driver to take us around the next day, which was wonderful - we saw so many of the sites, had a wonderful lunch, and never felt rushed. The rooms were well appointed, and Ayvali was a quiet, exotic break. It is a small hotel in a small town, but close to so many sites.

Note - this is the only place we hired a driver, and were glad we did - we only had a day and a half, and it made it such a relaxing, wonderful part of our trip.

Room Tip: just go. its all good.
