“Very basic”

I booked this place through a local travel agency. We were 2 and they booked us a studio for 145 euros per day.
The studio consisted of a small bedroom and a living room with 2 coaches/beds (you cannot sit in the coaches, you can only sleep) and an open plan kitchen (very basic).
The bedroom did not have an aircondition, there was one only in the living room. And August in Greece can be very hot (we experienced 38C). When we asked how we could deal with the heat, the answer was to turn on the aircondition in the living room - but a) it was not strong enough to reach the bedroom and b) the person who was supposed to sleep in the living room would get frozen!
I will agree 100% with the negative comment about the bathroom: the shower was tiny, no curtain and there was no way you could avoid the water going all over the place. And, answering to another comment, NO! bathrooms are not basic in Greece and a curtain is by no means considered a luxury (!?!?), I am Greek and I can guarantee you that!
The location is OK, but it is not a must-visit place on the island (Apolonia, Kastro, Artemonas are really interesting). So you have to drive a car to visit all the interesting beached and villages.
There is no parking space, so you have to park on the narrow road, not very safe for your car.
Close to Alkyonis villas is a beach bar called Folli, and the music is heard loudly in the hotel, from around 6pm till about 10-10.30pm.
I was well impressed about the cleanliness of the towels and sheets, they were in good condition and smelled very nice.
Taking into consideration all of the above, I would say that Alkyonis is a very expensive, but basic hotel, and would not recommend it. The island has far better places to stay.

“Pleasant studios in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2009

A well cared for small complex in beautiful gardens. Almost all the rooms have terraces with fantastic views of the bay and the location is quiet but not remote from the attractions of the town and beach. The rooms are comfortable but simply furnished.
We notice the previous reviewer's comments about the showers and wonder when Americans will learn to accept local ways of doing things. Greek showers are usually fairly basic. Shower curtains are a luxury and the need to hold the shower head does tend to reduce the amount of time spent showering - and consequently the use of large quantities of water on islands where this is in short supply. Rooms and bathrooms are kept immaculately clean by the helpful young couple who run the villas.
Alkyonis is popular with Greek visitors - while we were there a large party arrived to celebrate a baptism and great fun was had by all. As one of the older ladies said as she took a last look at the gardens and the view "Paradisi!". Excellent for a relaxing few days.

“Good But Not Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2008

We booked this place via a very good travel agent that we have used before. She is located in Athens so we felt very comfortable. This place was OK. We booked a suite but when we saw it, it was very modest ( in the sitting area, there were beds to lay on but no way to sit up and read) and it seemed to be the only accomodation in the place that had no view of the sea. We were quickly moved to a one room which actually had a great balcony with a wonderful view and the sitting area was much nicer looking and had 2 easy places to sit or lay down. (Though we had paid in advance they did reimburse us the difference for the smaller room) Both of the bathrooms (in either room) were odd in that the shower had nothing around it and the hand held spray nozzle had no place to put it on the wall. So when you would shower, it tended to get all over the bathroom. Not a problem in that there was a drain in the floor and it's hot so it drys quickly but it makes it tough for us gals to shave, wash our hair, etc.
They gave us one town per person and did not seem to change unless you asked. The kitchen area is right off the bed, but it was fine. very basic but had what you needed. The location is an easy walk to town (7 minutes) and to a few other restaurants up a hill. You can walk to the beach and its OK but there are much nicer beaches on the island.
