“Maggie is the BEST”

I was travelling through Northern Ireland with my two parents, sometimes getting one room for us all, sometimes two. We were booked at the Farmhouse in Cushendun for two nights. I had come down with a minor cold that I wanted to make sure was not going to infect my parents. Thankfully, Maggie talked us into upgrading to two rooms at the front of the house so if I had to make tea (or in my case, Lemsip) at 3am, I wouldn't wake anyone. AND WHAT A VIEW! Beyond the parked cars, beyond the sheep, beyond the beautiful bay was Cushendun--very small but very charming! Had a fantastic time and Maggie is an excellent cook and guide! Helpful at every step, I cannot recommend the Villa Farmhouse highly enough. Just a hint: if you don't get a quick email response from her, just email her again. I know she was taking computer classes at the time of our stay, and maybe her machine was having trouble or something. Maggie is a wonderful host!

“Traditional, friendly and beautiful house in amazing setting.”

Villa Farm is situated in the most amazing location, on the hillside above the tiny National Trust village of Cushendun, with incredible views down the jagged coastline. It is on the Torr Road, leading to the dramatic Torr Head and Fair Head at the NE tip of Ireland. In theory we should have been able to see the Mull of Kintyre just across the sea, but we didn’t have a clear enough day in our two-day stay. However this didn’t dampen our visit and Murlough Bay in particular was all the more ‘Lord of the Rings’ like for the swirling clouds, trees and pounding sea below, as we descended the steep narrow lane towards the cliffs.
Villa Farm itself is run by the friendly and welcoming Maggie Scully, who’s much loved mother Catherine ran the business for many years before her. The rooms are decorated in a very traditional way with antique furniture and each is absolutely spotlessly clean with great attention to detail for every comfort. A generous supply of clean towels, magazines in the room, loads of local knowledge and restaurant advice coming from a long family association with the village and love of the area. Our big Irish breakfast was just amazing with tasty soda bread, wheaten bread and pancakes. We loved our evening visit to the Cushendun Hotel and a most interesting chat with Randal McDonald in his cosy back room bar with blazing open fire. We also enjoyed Maggie’s recommendation of Harry’s restaurant in Cushendall for a good steak dinner. Enjoyed a hike in Glen Ariff too and very much hope to return to this beautiful coastline. We would definitely stay at Maggie’s again and maybe even in her lovely little self catering cottage alongside with it’s own private garden. Equally spotlessly clean and cosy with big picture windows.

“The view will take your breath away!”

But don't let the view be your only reason to stay here. The ensuite rooms upstairs are cheerful, clean, and comfortable, and the breakfast outstanding. But the most delightful thing about the Villa Farmhouse, in our estimation, is Maggie Scally, the proprietor. The gallery of family photos in the living room reveal Ms. Scally's rich and interesting heritage of belonging to this hillside (her brothers still tend the sheep on the rambling pastures either side and down to the sea). If you want to get a sense of the authentic and historic N. Antrim coast, this timeless, quaint, and hospitable B&B is the place to stay!

“Wonderful view”

We were touring the north of Ireland, and picked this B&B for the view, and were not disappointed. The Villa Farmhouse is a friendly traditional B&B, and we were made most welcome by Maggie Scally. The Farmhouse was clean, our room comfortable, and we had an enjoyable Irish breakfast. You can eat in Cushendun Village (which is just about walkable), and there are walks along the river and beach. It is worth a drive up to Torr Head and Slemish Mountain for the views.

“Lovely B&B with great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2008

This is a lovely B&B situated on a hillside with lovely views down to the picturesque village of Cushendun, harbour and beach.

I was in a ground floor room with sea view and which had an adjacent bathroom kitted out for the disabled.

The owner recommended we go to Cushendall 5 minutes drive away for dinner and we had a super meal at a very busy bistro called Joe's Upstairs.

Breakfast was the best we had during our stay in Northern Ireland, the scrambled eggs were the most succulent and the toast was even great too!

I would recommend this B&B to anyone and would definitely stay here again.
