In Brief
Compliments:
1. Nice staff.
2. Good comfortable room.
3. Nice view.
4. Nice but limited food.
4. Good welcome to the hotel with cherry brandy and tea.
Complaints:
1 Poor food variety.
2 No interesting local food variety.
3 Poor quality bread and jam.
4 Overpriced.
5 Very poor disabled access.
6 Poor heating in the room/bathroom.
7 No Wifi or internet access in rooms.
8 Deceptive name implying it is part of the Mayfair group.
We were very disappointed when we found that this hotel is no-where near the Mayfair group standards yet charge nearly the same rates. They should remove Mayfair from the name as it is deceptive as there is Mayfair 5 star and 3 star Mayfair hotels in Sikkim West Bengal. This hotel is not even three star and charging too much. They should reduce the rates by half.
The hotel has one nice feature. A full size snooker table on the top floor (room is very cold). There is also a library which strangely doesn't have a chess board or checkers.
Other than this the service was excellent, respectful and considerate. Although they didn't have any nice room for disabled they helped us as best they could. We were shown one room on the ground floor but it was dingy, dark with no windows and not really properly set up for the truly disabled.
Bathrooms are small and cold but clean and plenty of hot water. The suite facing the valley we had was spacious but cold.
I think other hotels and Sikkim tourism guest houses in Lachung might provide better value for money.
No internet access by wifi or wired connection.
