After hearing a lot about Sariska and reading the reviews of Tiger Den, we decided to go for a 2N/3D trip. We took the morning train from Gurgaon and reached Alwar and then took a bus to this hotel (Rs.50 for 2 ppl and time taken is 1 hour). The best part is that the bus drops you 100mtrs outside the hotel and you just need to walk in. Only Tiger Den and Sariska Palace are the two hotels outside the sanctuary. All other hotels that claim to be close to the sanctuary are atleast 8-10km away. So pls check the exact location of the hotel before booking online.
Good things about Tiger Den
1. Fantastic location: Right outside the sanctuary and next to the forest office where the safari tickets are available (for more info on this, pls contact me separately).
2. Decent lawn where you can relax in the evening and listen to the noises of animals
3. Hotel staff are pretty polite and helpful in providing information
Things that need huge improvement
1. The rooms are big and spacious but very basic and don't even have an intercom telephone. So, to order something, one has to go to the restaurant/reception.
2. Geyser and TV are provided in the room, but besides that the quality of bed linen, curtains etc is very bad. It feels as if they have not been cleaned for ages.
3. There is no other way to pass time in the resort...i.e. there are no options for playing indoor games etc nor does the hotel staff try to engage people in the evening by lighting up a bonfire
4. The room that we booked had complimentary breakfast and dinner and that turned out to be the worst part. There is no ala-carte available. You have to eat whatever is cooked by the hotel staff :(. The food served is very minimal and just doesn't satiate your hunger.
5. Further, there are no other snacks/refreshments available. So people going to this place with family/kids should stock up well on eatables
6. Since we had a torrid time with the food, we decided to have one of our meals in Sariska Palace which is just on the other side of the road. Sadly, we discovered that Sariska Palace charges Rs.500 per head as entry fee. On getting to know this, we abandoned that plan also.
Only the jungle safari was the saving grace. The hotel left us with a feeling of being shortchanged.
