“An excellent small hotel with emphasis on service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

The Douglas Hotel is in the heart of Langholm, an interesting small town in the Scottish Borders. It's worth going out of your way to stay or eat here. The hotel punches above its weight in terms of food; the menu is unpretentious with emphasis on quality and presentation rather then frills. Local produce and home-made dishes are the orders of the day. The hotel and restuarant are both well managed, and we thought attention to detail was above average.

Our bedroom was very comfortable and fairly recently upgraded, with a large bed and an attractive en-suite shower-room. The welcome tray was generous.

“A wonder to behold”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

I called on Friday night to see if we could get a booking for a pre-theatre meal. The gentleman I spoke to was very accomodating, and booked us in for 6pm the following night. We arrived early and were greeted and shown to out table right away - I had a fab spinach and mushrrom lasagne while my othe half had a steak pie - this was not your couple of bits of steak lurking under a bit of pastry steak pie this was real man food!! Th sweets were out of this world original and scrumptious - would have looked good on master chef. I had the blackcurrant mousse with licourice ice cream on a shortcake base sounds strange but the flavours so complemented each other. My husband has a tiramasu thingy whcih was equally as good - a bril find and will be back defo!!

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

I stayed at The Douglas for two nights (Sunday & Monday). I had travelled up from the South Coast for business. What a gem. I was greeted with a smile, the checking in process was very simple and shown my room at the top of the hotel. It was clean, modern and had a nice en-suite and most importantly a really good bed (best sleep I've had in a long time!). Breakfast was great day one I had poached eggs on buttery brown bread and day two the full "Scottish" equally delicious. They also offer a great continental selection.
I aslo enjoyed two very good evening meals. The staff throughout the hotel were all very helpful , friendly and considerate. I couldnt have felt more welcome and look forward to returning in the not to distant future. I would say The Douglas is "The best in the area" and very reasonably priced, excellent value for money.

“Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Being a local I often pop in here for an evening meal. The service is very good, nice friendly atmosphere, and the main item, the food is very very good. Menu is varied and extensive, specials are varied and interesting. Quality is top class and portions are more than generous. Is high on my list of favourate eating places and I travel a lot. Sorry no comments on rooms as I only eat there.
