I booked this castle hotel as a surprise for my partner and it didn't disappoint. We managed to get a good value 2 night package deal through the Sandton Hotels website which included dinner on the first night and cycle hire for day two.
We booked the mid-standard 'Kasteel Kamer' which was a suite style room with massive bed and very spacious en-suite room with bath/shower and twin sinks. There were quality complimentary toiletries provided and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. There was also a minibar but as I'm a typical Yorkshireman, I couldn't bring myself to pay the prices (2.50 Euro for a Mars bar I think, is a little excessive by anyones standards) but it made us smile/choke in equal amounts!
The hotel was once a convent and is set in its own grounds with plenty of free parking. It's located about 6 miles south west of Venlo on the edge of the village of Baarlo (pleasant enough for a stroll around). If you're travelling by train, you can take bus 77 from Venlo rail station (half hourly) which stops right outside the hotel driveway.
Meals are servied in the atmospheric conservatory style restaurant and the evening meal was superb. Breakfast was a very extensive Dutch buffet style and one of the best we have ever had.
We had a great, relaxing break which was just what we wanted and I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
