A friend and I spent a night here as part of a short trip out of Ahmedabad. The place is special. The owners incredibly friendly and philanthropic to the families in the adjacent village. Staff are treated well, and they in turn treat the guests well. There's nothing they wont help with, and there's always tea to sip in the shaded verandah and the breakfast, lunch and dinner- all included in the price of our stay, is a treat and wholesome.
The tribal women sell very interesting jewellery at a price that makes bargaining seem embarrassingly unnecessary. Avoid the more cliched, mass-produced trinkets though.
A few downsides though
- If there are noisy guests, just let staff know and they'll do something about it.
- None of the hotels follow any kind of wildlife-friendly protocols. The safari guide let the people on our jeep walk anywhere and stop anywhere they wanted to. A group of men with us proceeded to chase the animals we were out to see and the guide didn't stop them. Most of the Indian guests with us were more interested in taking tacky-posed pictures and chasing the animals rather than appreciating the landscape and nature. It's more a reflection on the ugly Indian tourist than this resort.
I'd rate it a stay and visit again. It's much, much better than the neighboring accommodations, both in terms of ambience and the quality of clientele.
Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the noise.
