“eclectic, calm, unique and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

A friend and I spent a night here as part of a short trip out of Ahmedabad. The place is special. The owners incredibly friendly and philanthropic to the families in the adjacent village. Staff are treated well, and they in turn treat the guests well. There's nothing they wont help with, and there's always tea to sip in the shaded verandah and the breakfast, lunch and dinner- all included in the price of our stay, is a treat and wholesome.
The tribal women sell very interesting jewellery at a price that makes bargaining seem embarrassingly unnecessary. Avoid the more cliched, mass-produced trinkets though.
A few downsides though
- If there are noisy guests, just let staff know and they'll do something about it.
- None of the hotels follow any kind of wildlife-friendly protocols. The safari guide let the people on our jeep walk anywhere and stop anywhere they wanted to. A group of men with us proceeded to chase the animals we were out to see and the guide didn't stop them. Most of the Indian guests with us were more interested in taking tacky-posed pictures and chasing the animals rather than appreciating the landscape and nature. It's more a reflection on the ugly Indian tourist than this resort.
I'd rate it a stay and visit again. It's much, much better than the neighboring accommodations, both in terms of ambience and the quality of clientele.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the noise.

I booked tgis resort with a travel agent because I am very muchj intersted to see the beauty of Kutch. I was there with my family members. The resort offers accommodation in the form of ethnic Kutchi mud-huts called Koobas - they are the dearest cottages! The accommodation is simple and the decor of the place is rustic. The resort people are very good and The owner, Mr. Dhanraj Malik, himself has fantastic knowledge on birds, and is happy to help you out with any identifications. Our package also included food - the buffets are simple but good number of options.

Room Tip: Basicalaly the are not providing cement made room it is hut . You can get hot water Ac

“Riding the Rann”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

Having spent considerable time in the other wildlife parks of Gujarat, Sasan Gir and Velavadar, it was time to check out the Little Rann of Kutch. There were only 2 viable options here, the other one being the Rann Riders. Overall, pretty happy with our choice given the price and the good hospitality.

The camp is located a fair distance from the entrance to the LRK gate (Basically, the place where you get entry formalities done from as the Rann has no defined boundaries). They have very knowledgeable drivers and will work hard to get you to the subjects you have in mind (Bustards, Raptors, Fox etc.)

Food was strictly ok, usually bland to suit a universal palate I guess. Breakfast was the best meal as it was prepared to order and the staff was attentive. Did not enjoy sleeping on the coir beds as they were kinda saggy and created a depression around the lower back area. Have slept on my fair share of coir beds to know that these were not good.

The highlight of your visit would be a chat or many with Dhanraj Malik, a gentleman with a large heart who runs a local school and (i think) widows rehabilitation center. He is the guy to tell you all about the Rann and life in these parts.

“Unique experience - totally worth it!”

I just visited this place with my husband. We were looking to do something different from the ordinary for our anniversary, and 'different' is definitely the word to describe Desert Coursers. From the minute we step foot into the place, we felt we'd got our money's worth. The resort offers accommodation in the form of ethnic Kutchi mud-huts called Koobas - they are the dearest cottages! The accommodation is simple and the decor of the place is rustic. The beds in the cottage are just super-comfortable and put you into deep slumber the minute you rest your head. The place definitely has its own charm.

Our package included a safari to the Rann, but little did we imagine the safari would be a good 3.5 hours long, with so many bird and animal sightings! Being December, it was also peak season to spot winter visitors to the Rann. Our driver was polite and extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife of the area. The owner, Mr. Dhanraj Malik, himself has fantastic knowledge on birds, and is happy to help you out with any identifications.

Our package also included food - the buffets are simple but good number of options. Although for those who prefer spicy food, it may taste a bit bland. For those who are worried about cleanliness, the rooms and washrooms are spotlessly clean, and the staff take pains to keep them spotless. For animal lovers, Mr.. Malik has around 4-5 dogs (including an absolutely adorable and friendly Dalmatian) who bound around the place, and are a delight to kids and adults alike.

All in all, the place has fantastic value for money, it offers a lovely but different experience and makes you realize how little you need to be comfortable in life!
