“Inreadible Hotel”

After a long trip from the Amanbagh we finally arrive in the early afternoon in the hotel. Manager couple greeted us upon arrival. As my wife and her mom were sick they helped us to call doctor and translate as well. They were absolutely amazing. Our butler Satish was the best butler i ever had, friendly, helpful, understanding all the needs we had. Lovely tents. I have been to the Amanwana and must say these tents in the Aman-i-Khas are far better. Huge bathtub, living space. I shared a room with my two kids and we had more than enough space. Food was great, even though it was a set menu. However if you need anything else for kids for example they cook it for you. loved every minute there.

“Stunning resort & overall experience. Could not recommend enough!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights, hoping to see a tiger during one of our 2 safaris (we did!!), and just relaxing in the resort, which was so easy to do. From the minute we arrived, to a lovely personal welcome from the 2 GMs (Richard & Christina), the front office manager who had just so efficiently dealt with our booking from the outset (Shan), and our butler/batman for our stay (Satish), our stay could not have been more comfortable. Mealtimes are merely a guideline - whatever time of day or night you wish to eat, it will be catered (not that we put this to the test!!). Anything and everything we wanted, we just had to ask Satish, and it would be done. Whatever time we wanted to wake up Satish would bring tea/coffee to our tent and just leave it in the entrance area for us.

Aman/Satish arranged both our safaris, and a nature walk, for us; and all were fantastic (particularly seeing a tiger on our first safari!!).

We both had a massage during our stay, and again I can only use superlatives!

Food. Again, almost whatever you want. I had had a bit too much rich Indian food during our previous 9 days, so Satish’s suggestion on evening 1 of lamb rack with boiled vegetables, and mashed potato, was perfect. The lamb was delicious, and the vegetables slightly crunchy, and very tasty - most of them having come from the resort’s own organic vegetable & herb garden, which I had a tour of the following day. Simply lovely. Evening 2 we both had pan-seared seabass again with fresh vegetables & potatoes. Every meal was delicious, nutritious, and beautifully-presented.

The “tents” are just amazing. 108 sq m of clean, functional, beautiful space. The beds are just so comfortable, and crawling into bed with a warm electric blanket was just a wonderful experience in the chilly Rajasthan evenings!

Aman resorts are expensive, but certainly at Aman-i-Khas, what it promises, it delivers. I would return in an heartbeat.......

“BATMAN=SUPERMAN”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2010

I had a hard time deciding whether to stay at Vanyavilas (Oberoi group) or at the Aman-i-Khas. A friend, who had stayed at the Vanyavilas recently and had gone to visit the Aman property while on his trip, recommended that I give Aman resort a try (knowing fully well, that up to this point I had been an ardent Oberoi hotels fan).

The Aman- i-Khas experience did not disappoint and I think its safe to say that i have become a fan of the Aman chain (I believe the term used for this is 'Aman junkie').

My wife and I had planned this trip for our first honeymoon. We had to travel from New Delhi to Sawai Madhopur by train. On board the train I was trying to upgrade us from 2nd class AC to 1st class AC (recommended), as I had been unable to procure the tickets on the ground. And that is where we met our 'Batman' -Satish .... smiling and with a welcoming namaste; he was on the train, to make sure that we (and another couple traveling on the same train) had a pleasant transit experience. Needless to say, with Satish's assistance and my powers of persuasion, we managed to get the much coveted 1st AC sleeper.

*Batman- is a term coined by the British in the colonial era meaning orderly. In modern terms it can be interchanged with private butler.

The Aman-i-Khas resort has only 10 Lavish tents that accommodate roughly 20 guests... the hotel has about 80 staff members to take care of these 20 guests. You will never see the staff, your batman will take care of all your needs, one can only imagine that he has the assistance of the rest of the staff. Our batman- Satish was simply superb... By the end of the trip I started referring to him as superman.

We had taken one of the all inclusive packages, highly recommended, as I think the al a carte options are expensive. I can't be sure of this fact as we never got a chance to even look at a food menu. In the all incl. option, their mantra- is whatever you want, whenever you want it. Satish never gave us a menu, we decided whatever we felt like having and it was made freshly for us. The Food was always upto par or better than expectations and breakfast was always sublime (eggs benedict is a must try). Almost all ingredients and vegetables are grown organically on the property itself and you will taste the freshness in the preparation. Be sure to try a simple garden salad with any one of your meals to experience this for yourselves. My wife and I are big foodies and love mostly non-veg food and all are needs were met. We were not disappointed with the food, the Indian fare was particularly good.

The tents at the property are oozing with class; huge 3 sectioned tents, all in white, just superb. The tents are very high, roomy and extremely comfortable. There are no TVs or phones in the tent... there is a silent bell under the day bed, in the middle section of the tent which needs to be pressed just once for your batman to appear within minutes. There is just one designing flaw in the tents- the bathroom is divided in such a way that the toilet and shower are in one side of the tent and the washbasins are on the other side; so one needs to walk across the tent, about 20 feet to wash their hands after using the toilet. Other than this though, the accommodation is perfect in every way.

All the tents on the property are identical so there is no need to ask for a better room. The property has been left true to nature... it doesn't have manicured gardens and walled tents like the Oberoi property (I prefer this approach). Satish took us on a tour of the property, including the organic garden. This is also highly recommended.

The Spa, I felt could use better trained therapists, Oberoi is way better in the spa category but that being said, it was not a bad massage... and one could certainly use a massage after the safari. Safari's are mostly bumpy and although we didn't get to see a tiger in our 2 Safaris, it was still a lot of fun and there's plenty else to see.

The Service at this resort is unparalleled. I mean I could literally right a short book on our 4 day experience there. Satish, our Batman, was simply fantastic and went above and beyond the call of duty to keep us thoroughly satisfied at all times. And one can only imagine that every guest is pampered the way that we were on this spectacular trip.

I could go on about how spectacular this trip was, I could go on about how our batman stayed with us throughout when our train was delayed, coordinated with other staff to bring some organic eggs from the hotel, which my wife really wanted to carry back with her. He took us around town to explore as the train kept getting delayed further. I wanted some vodka for the train ride; this was also arranged from the wine shop, at no extra cost and delivered at the station while he waited with us. He even manged to get us the 1st Class AC sleeper on the way back although there is no quota to buy the same from the station.

In summary, the Aman-i khas is an experience that has to be Experienced and not read about... Peaceful and Exciting, this was one of our favorite trips.

“Terrific Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2010

We had a lovely stay at this Aman property. The tents are fantastic (make sure you get one of the far, far and as isolated as possible) The service was terrific. And the best surprise was the food. They grow their own vegetables and though the menus are simple they are executed flawlessly. The soups and the salads I had here were memorable. The highlight was a dinner that our group had by the pool, I think it is called the stepwell? In any case, the pool, not that inviting during the day, was transformed into a magical place. Lit by candles, (and there was a full moon!) in the very still night, we sat in rugs that were placed on the perimeter of the pool. Across from us, musicians, and wonderful they were, and a chef cooking some of our food in a tandoori that had been carried there. This tandoori chicken was only second to the amazing one I got at Amambagh. The evening was lovely. The national park with the tigers, well, not so great. Hard to see the tigers and the rides are horrible bumpy. This has nothing to do with the hotel, it is all controlled by the park. But I definitely would go back to the Aman if not to to the tiger reserve.

“AMAZING!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

We had the best time at Aman-i-Khas. We stayed there at the beginning of January and had a dreadful journey to get there - plane delayed by 3 hours and then took an extra hour to land which meant we missed our Delhi tour, train delayed by over 4 hours and then took 11 hours instead of 3.5 hours to get there. Sitting on the train, I was thinking that this place had to be something special to make up for all the problems we had had getting there and it was!

Our batman Rahul had used a contact of his to contact someone on our train to reassure us that he would be waiting and at 5am he was! He provided us with hot tea and toast on arrival and showed us to our tent - marqee might be a more appropriate word! We had the greatest time there - the tent was amazing, the food was lovely and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty. Rahul was so helpful.

Unknown to me, my boyfriend had contacted the hotel as he wanted to propose while we were there and they went to so much effort for us - arranging a massage for me to keep me out of the way while they made the final plans and coming up with a story of Indian dancers to get me to the pool in time for dinner. The proposal itself was incredibe - there were candles all around the pool and in the trees and an Indian priest to give us a blessing before my boyfriend popped the question. Needless to say I said yes! Afterwards there were some Indian musicians playing just for us and our own private chef who cooked us a gorgeous dinner while we sat beside the pool and I admired my new piece of bling!

When we got back to our tent, there was another bottle of champagne and lots of candles and rose petals everywhere. I could never have imagined a proposal like it - it was like something out of a film. The Manager had helped my boyfriend organise everything and she did a sterling job.

Aman-i-khas will always be a very special place to me but even without the proposal, I would highly recommend that anyone stays there. We did 4 safaris although we didn't see any tigers (too cold and foggy in January - probably better March-May time) and we also did a tour of the fort with the guide from Aman-i-khas who was great and realy knew his stuff.

This was my first Aman experience but definitely won't be my last!
