A poorly run hotel staffed by inexperienced gap year kids and managed by someone with little more idea. Agreement is with the drain smells, the treacherous icy car park and steps and the poor facilities. We encountered a dirty bathroom on arrival, a bed that collapsed, a bathroom heater with a mind of its own and a TV that didn't work. The shower was always hot and powerful but the awful clinging shower curtain made it a frustrating experience. Breakfast was poor - if you wanted a decent choice you had to be in early. When food ran out it was a long wait for basic items to be replenished. Cold boiled eggs on 2 days, tepid porridge on 2 days if you were lucky. First - search for clean plates mugs and cutlery and clear away a place for yourself before takink pot luck on what was likely to be available. Evening meals failed to live up to their description - eg roast lamb and pork actually of the pre sliced sandwich variety. The wine starting at 10 € a bottle was very poor plonk. Soup for starters often luke warm or cold and service very haphazard. The bars served overpriced watered down beer to go with the smell of drains and it was alwayspreferable to walk down into the town to one of the better value bars there. A charge to rent a padlock to secure our ski equipment was annoying as was the charge for the quiz night. We decided to book our skis from Rocket Ski finding them to be on a par with hire shops however no one in our large party was given the size of skis they requested. A school party staying in the hotel had first service with the skis and we had what was left. The school kids (Edinburgh) were all well behaved and pleasant and were no problem to share the hotel with. However the overall impression that the standards the hotel sets itself are for budget school parties. Other guests commented on poor quality beds, drains and plumbing that was inadequate and low standards of service. Thankfully our room had a good view if the slope and was warm. Others in the attic rooms with skylights were not so lucky. The hotel is well situated for the gondala, old town and the main shopping area of Villeneuve, assuming you can make it safely across the car park.(even worse when dragging a suitcase) It would only take a small amount of organisation to improve the quality of this hotel. Annoying to see staff more interested in facebook than ensuring guests can find a clean place to eat or safely make it to the snow.
