“Not a perfect hotel but in a great environment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We spend 5 days for Xmas

On the hotel itself : rooms are comfortable but there is no pleasant location inside the hotel to read , having a drink...

On the Food side, the A La Carte Menu is OK but the buffets are mediocre , and the Xmas one was very disappointing

The staff is nice and tries to make its best

On the activities side have in mind they are expensive but very well organized (pay attention however there is a very inefficient person at the Activity Desk inside the hotel)

“Comfortable hotel in an astonishing surrounding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

During our roundtrip in Canada we also wanted to see and experience some of the nature this country has to offer. We did not have enough time to go away from the bigger cities in the Eastern part so this hotel was a perfect choice. It is located just a few hours drive from Montreal, but when you arrive you get the feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere. All around is forest and the hotel is overlooking a big lake.
The hotel is built in form of a very big block house and therefore fits perfectly in the environment. The lobby is not too big, but has a very nice atmosphere because of a big fireplace and some nice and comfortable armchairs. Besides you can access free internet there what is very useful because you have no signal anywhere in the hotel.
We had two rooms with lake view. The rooms were very spacious and had a balcony. Wood is the predominant material everywhere and although some furniture was quite old-fashioned it still fitted in the setting. Compared to the bed room the bathroom was rather small. But the beds were comfortable and everything was clean.
With the room we booked half board which proved to be a good choice because apart from the hotel's restaurant there is no possibility of eating. The food was good and until the very last minute of the meal times fresh food was replenished. However, I would have appreciated a bit more variety. It was also very nice closing the evening in the bar. They have an incredibly extensive cocktail list and offered also any other drink you expect. The staff is very nice and always available for a chat. As there is not a lot to do in the hotel during the evening the bar also offered parlor games which was very nice.
Obviously, the hotel and all activities offered were in line with the nature. So you could go hiking on one of the diverse trails, swimming in the lake or borrowing one of the boats/kayaks available free of charge to explore the lake. This was lots of fun and a great experience. Additionally the hotel is a great location just to relax for a while, go to the spa area, sit on the terrace and read, etc.
Furthermore, you could book additional excursions for an extra fee. We booked a tour where you observe bears and beavers and it is absolutely recommended. A guide drives you deeper into the forest and you can see the animals in there natural environment. Especially concerning the bears it might be that you need some patience, but it is absolutely worth waiting for some time. Meanwhile the guide explains you a lot about the animals and their habits which is absolutely informative.
All in all our stay there was a great experience. The hotel and the surrounding is a nice way to enjoy nature. We would return.

“Beautiful building, location and spa...and that's about it”

You cannot deny that this log cabin looks fantastic as does the location with it's tranquil lake and no neighbours anywhere to be seen. The spa (although closed when we were there) looks quite impressive. That's about the only pros to this place.

Cons: WAY overpriced, I mean it's almost insulting.
Rooms are very basic, beds are drab and need updating, as do the bathrooms.
Customer service is blah and nothing more than that.
We also saw a patron at the front desk holding a bed bug (I saw it with my own two eyes) so hopefully they have dealt with that irritating problem.

“A very expensive log cabin, but lovely location and stunning views”

We spent one night in the hotel on a short breakaway from the city during the colors season.
The location is just amazing, and the view on the lake from the hotel terrace absolutely magnificent. The hotel itself fits nicely in the environment. It is comfortable, but this is more a Deluxe version of an AMC lodge, with ensuite bathroom, than a four star hotel. The
Service was very uneven, clearly not up to the 4 stars.
Food (diner and breakfast) was OK, though again not up to the four stars (in particular the bread was an industrial frozen baguette of the worst kind).
We walked a few of the hiking trails, which were well designed, with a nice lake or view point every kilometer or so. The seaplane ride was pricey but fun and full of nice views (and what would you not pay for your flight in a seaplane?).
Overall a very nice place to stay for a day or two, but be aware that the four stars and the steep price are for the location, activities and views, not for the hotel comfort and service.

“Beautiful place”

We spent one night in this hotel. The decor is rustic and simple, rooms are small but comfortable, good beds, clean bathroom, large balcony and absolutely stunning view, as we paid extra to have a lake view room. Imho: the rooms are a bit dated for such an expensive hotel (linoleum in the bathroom and wall to wall carpeting for example). Be prepared not to have a TV in your room.
The site is amazing, they propose a lot of activities, some are included in the price.
The dinner-buffet and the breakfast were delicious (I'd rather have an à la carte dinner though), the spa was great, the staff - efficient.
We really loved this place and will return there with great pleasure, but still find it too expensive.
