Simon runs a pig farm and his wife Bobby runs the Band B in their stunning Victorian farmhouse. It is appropriately decorated and furnished with Bobby's fabulous collection of oriental rugs on the wooden floors. Our room had a huge kingsize bed, with pristine white bedlinen, views of their lovely garden, full tea and coffee making facilities and even the towelling dressing gowns that you normally only get in expensive hotel rooms. The welcome was very friendly. Bobby made us a pot of tea on our arrival. There is plenty of information on local attractions and places to visit. The full english breakfast was excellent. They use their own home cured bacon and home made sausages. You sit round one big family table with the other guests which encourages conversation and sharing local knowledge. For us the highlight of the stay was the (optional) tour of the pig farm that Simon gave us.That had been attraction to my husband when we were choosing where to stay, because in the second world war he had worked on a farm, but I thought it wouldn't be particulalry interesting. How wrong I was! Simon drove us round in his battered farm landrover, stopping to explain and show us every stage of the pig farming process. He had that combination of expertise and enthusiasm for his subject which you find in the best teachers. He clearly loves the pigs and cares about looking after them well and their quality of life while they are with him, but in a non sentimental way as he is farming for meat, not raising pets.I will ceratinly be a much better educated purchaser of meat from now on. I am surprised we have any pig farmers left as they get so little from the suopermarkets for their animals. All in all an ecellent B and B with a definitely unusual bonus.
