“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We needed somewhere to stay close to the venue of a big family birthday party and were lucky enough to be pointed towards Church Gate. The owners, a very youthful retired couple of ex colonials, were a delight - efficient, great company and professional. The room was extremely comfortable set in a cottage separate from the main building. The garden was both wild and formal - a perfect combo. And breakfast tip top. Itchenor is a delightful harbour, (particularly for sailing bods), and we also drove to two or three very good country pubs/restaurants for lunch and dinner on our days away from the amazing nearby beaches and the harbour. We particularly liked the eccentricity and superb food at The Samphire, a couple of miles away.

“The Very Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

We have experienced many b&bs around the country - some of them very good indeed. But we are both agreed that this is bed and breakfast at its very best. One could not ask for a more helpful and attentive hostess in Janie and the garden rooms are of top quality; you will read from earlier comments of the attention to detail. The breakfasts are everything you could wish for, from the alpine strawberries to the golden yellow eggs and the garden is a delight. If you are looking for accommodation in this area, this is the place to stay! Thanks Janie and Alastair.

“Special B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2011

Careful thought has been given to the rooms at Church Gate to ensure that you have a relaxing and very comfortable stay. I
we stayed in the cottage, and the rooms have an ensuite tiled bathroom with underfloor heating.
The bed are made up with top quality bedlinen with goosedown duvets and the best pillows. If you want to be assured of a good nights sleep this is the place for you!

The rooms have flat screen TVs and a tray with a choice of teas and coffee, biscuits and mineral water and freshly cut flowers from the garden.

Bathrooms have heated towel rails, fluffy towels and wonderful soap, shower/bath gel, shampoo and lotion made from the purest products specially for Church Gate.

Downstairs in the cottage there's a beautiful flagstone sitting room with TV, an assortment of family games, books, guides and maps and fresh coffee and tea available. There's also a small outside terrace which gets the evening sunshine.

Janie could not have been more helpful and I especially liked the chickens and her beautiful garden.

Take advantage of our tennis court, but please bring your own racquets and balls. There may even be some bikes which you can borrow!

“Perfect B&B that's more than a B&B!”

Had a two night stay at Church Gate over the Easter weekend and we had a lovely time. The accommodation is lovely as it is set as a separate building within the beautiful garden of a private home. This was great for us with two (sometimes quite noisy!) children (9&7) and gave us all the privacy you would get from a holiday cottage but all the intimate attention of a B&B.

The garden building is beautifully presented, very open and spacious and has great light. Beds were comfortable with lovely bedding and towels and lots of lovely little extra touches like aromatherapy soaps and toiletries.

We were lucky and had fantastic summer-like weather for our stay so we had breakfast on the terrace both mornings which was fantastic. Janie does a particularly good fried egg - from her own chickens no less!

If there was one thing I would improve - and it really is only a minor thing - it would be to have wi-fi in the garden cottage. For email/internet addicts like us it would have been the icing on the cake.

Janie, well done on creating such a great experience.

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2011

We are regularly visitors to this wonderful b&b run by a lovely lady called Janie. We stayed in a purpose built, modern unit with a choice of either a double or twin room, both ensuite with bath and shower, and a downstairs lounge area. There is a patio looking out over a nice garden where we have spent time after a long day with a glass of wine and reading the papers - bliss! But it is the friendly hospitality from Janie and her little touches that make this b&b so special. I don't want to spoil the fun, but an example is - after returning from the pub on a cold night in April - to find a hot water bottle in my bed! Also, locally produced organic chocolates by our bed. Finally, the breakfast .... a good choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, juices (often freshly squeezed or locally sourced) and then the delicious cooked breakfast! All produced almost magically in a homely kitchen while making friendly conversation. This is a real find and ideally situated for exploring a beautiful area especially for walkers and cyclists. Plenty of pubs, restaurants etc. We love it!
