We stayed a week in an apartment at the little holiday resort of La Azohia. It is mainly a spanish resort and relatively undeveloped. It certainly doesn't have any of the brash garishness of some of the other costas.
Allthough La Azohia is described as a "little fishing village" it's a bit more than that. There are two main parts - an area of holiday villas- mostly spanish - and a large cleverly designed apartment complex (where we stayed) going up the hill side. Here the ground floor apartments are simply flats with a courtyard and no views but the upper floor apartments each have a large roof top solarium with views across the entire bay, albeit with many such rooftops beneath you.
The beach is huge with a pleasant boulevard. Watersports are on offer but not intrusive. There a few bar/restaurants, a small supermarket and a bodega (which offers wine - quite acceptable - and sweet sherry - yeuk! - from the barrel at silly prices - take your own bottle)
The backdrop to all this is a range of steep mountains. Access is by one of two roads, one of which is mountainous and spectacular - so you definitely need a car. The nearest airport is Murcia - San Javier, about an hour's drive - but get good directions or a sat nav or a good map (Michelin 577) - or, like us, all three! We didn't visit much in the area as, even in September, it was still very hot.
If you want night life, parties and lots of Brits, this is NOT for you. If you want a relaxing holiday with just family and friends you might just love it - we did! We will return.
