I just got back last week from a 3 nights stay at this lovely hotel, the staff is very polite and friendly, our room was charming, bathroom with good size, all spotless clean. Two negative points, the TV only had 3 decent channels (the other 17 were not there) and the safe was not functioning – we were told it was in maintenance !?
The rest of the hotel was beautiful, all very well decorated and maintained, with obvious respect for its roots – a convent.
The swimming pull was not very big, but clean and great for a swim after a long hot day in Alentejo.
Now the real downsize of this hotel was breakfast and dinner (we were half board). For breakfast we had coffee, tee, cereals, fruit, bread, ham, cheese, marmalade and cake. For a 2 stars hotel would be enough, not for a 4 stars. On top, espresso had to be paid extra (it is not the price that I question – 1€ -, but the fact they charge it at all). All 3 dinners were really disappointing, even more when we are in one of the most fabulous Portuguese gastronomic regions. Alentejo has such reach gastronomy, from cheese to fish, to pork, to wine, to deserts that is difficult to name one.
The sunset by the pool is unique. A visit to Cudelaria de Alter is a must.
