“Courtyard Okay for Business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2009

My company has an agreement with Courtyard--multiple daily free transport back and forth to our facility in Monterrey--so I was told to stay there. It was, overall, not bad.

The check-in was quick and efficient. My room was small, but nice. I could open the window (only a little) to let in fresh air. It was warm, so I used the air conditioning a lot. Wish that would have been better controlled--I was either really hot or really cold. And, if I sat at the desk in the room, the cold air blew right on me which was a little annoying.

The free wireless internet (again, a perk of my workplace) was very strong and I never had a problem getting on or staying on. I only used it in my room, although colleagues did use it in the lobby and didn't have a problem either.

I did sit out near the pool in the gazebo one afternoon. It was nice, warm and comfortable. The hotel was clean, including my room, the hallways, the elevator and the lobby. I detected no garbage or smells. The employees at the hotel from the maids to the drivers to the front desk personnel were all friendly and professional.

The food at breakfast was good--I ate the buffet every day. They make omelettes for you, if you ask, and there are numerous other foods that filled me up for the day.

The evening dinner I only ate once and it was okay, although nothing to write home about. There is an Italian restaurant adjacent to the hotel, and a chicken wings and Chilis restaurant nearby, along with a Subway and Carls, Jr. A 7-11 is at the end of the block.

One of the only things I wish I would've had was a refrigerator and microwave in my room. That would have made things perfect.

“Nothing Special - Nothing Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2008

Stayed for a week in early March 2008 and found it to be what I expected with no surprises. Monterrey did experience an incredible dust storm during my stay (60+mph winds for seven hours) and most of the city was without power for several hours.

If the stairwells had emergency lights the batteries did not last long. This is one reason I always travel with a good small flashlight. When I return later in the year I'll most likely stay next door at the Hampton, not because of anything wrong with the Courtyard but because I get Hilton Honor points next door.

Breakfast buffets were standard but you can almost get the same thing with the American Breakfast for a slightly cheaper amount.

“Tired of poor service at this property”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2007

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times beacuase of it's location to the airport and it's on my company approved list while in Mexico. This last stay was my final time. They had so many problems with their internet connection I couldnt' get my work done (lack fo server space or wireless access points I believe). I tried the restaraunt three times and never did get served a meal like it was ordered. The staff doesn't seem to care anymore. I knew this property was in turmoil when I received a survey from corporate Marriott regarding the property that promised a $5 coupon if I returned the survey. I should have changed my reservation the day I got the survey but didn't. I will not book this property again.

“I got stolen at this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2007

Be advised of what happened to me, as a business traveller i have been to lots of places but last month i left my blazer and my montblanc pen in my room since the weather was getting pretty warm. When i came back the evening of the 22nd from the office and was preparing for my checkout early the next day realized that my pen was missing, after the initial surprise and basically turning the room upside down i realized what had happened, the hotel management denied any responsibiity even though it was their hotel, their room and they were the ones giving access to my room to their employees. I have no doubt in my mind that the employee who cleaned the room did more than that, not being this enough they refused to provide the name of the employee assigned to clean my room so i could file charges. The later gives you a good sense of the kind of business ethics on the people who run this property. The above even though i am a platinum marriot member, imagine what any other guest can expect at this particular location with people who steal from you when you are out working.

“A nice place convenient to the Apodaca business parks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2005

Stayed at this hotel for two weeks in October. Will pretty much agree with the last report. Very nice hotel with nice rooms. Except for the $4.99 plastic toilet seat :-). They have a limited number of rooms with refrigerators.

One thing that can be a problem at the hotel is noise. If you look between the two towers in picture #2 you can see a jet about to land at the airport. Often, on take off and landing, the planes are not far from the hotel (over my left shoulder as I took the picture). I could sometimes even hear them with the ear plugs I use when I sleep in hotels. Also as my room faced the front of the hotel you could often hear the slight squealing of tires from the shuttles and other vehicles. It seems the make up of the pavement in Monterrey causes this effect with little effort from the vehicle. To help the noise problem a bit my suggestion would to be to try and get a room facing the courtyard (rooms with an even number) instead of the outside.

The hotel shuttles will take you to all the major business parks in Apodaca. Although in the busy times in the afternoon if might take 15-20 minutes for the shuttle to arrive. But I was working at the business park farthest from the hotel. The shuttles are available for nearby dining and shopping runs after the business runs slow down.

I was a bit disappointed with breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast was not included in the room cost and ran around $7.50 for an American breakfast. Breakfast was served buffet style and often some of the items were not very warm. A couple of times they had run out of some items. You can have an omelet or waffles made. However when the breakfast crunch hits it can take a while. But if nothing else breakfast is convenient.

The hotels and surrounding restaurants are kind of an island of commerce. You have to go some distance to find other shops and restaurants. There are four good restaurants very near the hotel plus a Carl's Jr. and a Seven Eleven. A 8-10 minute walk up the frontage road towards the airport (or a 1 minute shuttle ride) will bring you to a nice Italian restaurant (last two pictures). Other than that it is a shuttle or cab ride to civilization. We started to feel a little trapped in this area. We made a couple of trips down to the Sierra Madre Brewing Co. (~100 peso cab ride). SMBC has great food with a large menu. They are located next to the Super WalMart and Sam's Club. After dinner you can do some shopping and pick up all that tequila you promised your friends :-).
