The problem when writing about Mirador is where to start, it is all perfect! I stayed here in 2008 before the renovations started and many things were excellent back then too. The one thing back then was the annex, which was good, but a little outdated. That has now been renovated, and perfectly so! Colors are either red and cream or chocolate and cream depending on the room. The hallway has been enlarged and each room has a large terrace with a magnificent view over Vevey, Lac Leman, and the Alps. The impression seeing it from the room is so stunning that one doubts it is for real. Going to bed in the evening and waking up in the morning with this beautiful ever-changing landscape makes you feel like a king.
Something I enjoyed is that they have kept the original building intact and thus you have a choice between modern or classic. Personally I adore the staircases in old hotels. It is so much better to descend for dinner sweeping down a large staircase instead of standing cramped in a crowded elevator.
The facilities are AAA with a Spa, a pool, and a fitness center all very well equipped, maintained, and clean. There are treadmills, bicycles, all sorts of fitness machines, weights, sauna, hammam. You have it all. I did spend some time in the fitness center, but honestly, when you visit a hotel in such surroundings, the only sensible exercise is of course to go outdoors and hike, run, or cycle. The views are stunning! You may also hike up to a telecoms tower on the top of a hill and take an elevator to the top of the tower for an even more splendid view.
As for dining I think the concept with two restaurants (plus the Chalet a short walk away) is great. There is the more relaxed Le Patio, which we chose considering our son of 3 months, and the upscale Le Trianon which is a top rate restaurant which we visited last time we were here.
I must also mention the staff. To me hotel staff is very important Hotellerie is after all a services business. There is such a difference between hotels where amateurs do their best to keep their guests happy, and hotels that hire people who have had schooling in hotel management and services. Mirador belongs to the latter category. From the moment you enter the hotel you know you have got professionals in front of you. It is evident in everything : clothing, haircuts, language, gesture, check-in process, even down to the way the cleaning staff greets you in the hallway.
In summary: if you are looking for a getaway that will make you feel like a king with astonishing surroundings and view that makes you breathless, Mirador is an excellent choice!
