“Swiss tradition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

Having been to the hotel already a second time, we did not regret it. The hotel is a more traditional house of a seemingly bygone era of swiss grand hotelerie, however at a slightly more affordabele price as it is "only" a four star hotel. Good restaurant with upscale cuisine. Stunning location. If you cannot get a room with a with lake view, try to visit this hotel another time.

“Beautiful Hotel with a Breathtaking View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

It's a quiet, comfortable and charming old fashioned hotel with good food and a stunning view over the lake. Just 5 minutes down to Montreux without the noise and the crowd. The only drawback (for some few hot days in the summer) would be the lack of air condition in the rooms.

“Poor value”

I visited the Hotel Victoria on business for a congress. Although the hotel was mostly empty but for our group (off-season), I was given a dreary rooom, on the back side of the hotel (no view) and so small that I had to walk carefully not to bump into the ugly, mismatched old furniture on the way to the worn-out bathroom. Bad shower experience as well - who needs antique plumbing?
I would only come back to the Victoria for the restaurant and the magnificent views of the lake from the hilltop. I suggest that anyone going there on business or on a budget carefully checks which kind of room they get!

“Stunning position, old fashioned luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

We have visited the Victoria several times over the last 10 years or so and it never disappoints. We were very lucky with the weather this time which was hot and dry, meaning that we could dine outdoors in the evening. The Victoria is situated high above Montreux with a stunning view across Lac Leman to the mountains beyond (Queen recorded "This could be heaven" nearby - it is). There is no road noise to disturb your enjoyment of the lovely gardens and pool area - everything beautifully maintained. The hotel is old and full of antiques, and the rooms are "old style" with rather small bathrooms however all the plumbing worked well. Most rooms have stunning views and small balconies - however we had a large balcony on which there were sunbeds and a table and chairs which was great for breakfast. We have always had breakfast on our balcony - it is just stunning and no extra charge. The restaurant has a terrace with a complex system of glass panels and blinds so that it can be completely open or closed against the elements with blinds or not depending on the weather. The restaurant is popular with well-heeled locals and just like the rooms enjoys stunning views. Either lunch or dinner is a wonderful experience with both a very full a la carte menu or a cheaper daily menu perhaps aimed at longer stay clients. The wine list is long with many very good local wines (there are many very good Swiss wines but they are rarely exported) but a rather pricey French wine selection. Dinner was excellent quality and seemed good value to us for this kind of establishment (I think we paid around 200€ for 2 including wine and 3 courses selected from the a la carte). The wine is quiet expensive but some people were drinking wine by the carafe which was not advertised and presumably cheaper. We think the Victoria represents good value for a Relais and Chateaux establishment (most are more expensive) and we can't really find fault with it. Just below the hotel is a cog railway station which takes you all the way up the mountain behind the hotel - there the views really are something. You can get off at several points and then walk back down along well marked footpaths - or para-pente if you are very brave....The Victoria will always be special to us - try it.

“Peace and quiet above Montreux”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2008

Intended to stay in Montreux but all lakeside hotels were full. Luckily we drove up the steep hill to Glion and were delighted to spend the night in the Victoria Hotel. Knowing it was in the Relais and Chateaux Group we realised it would not be cheap, but we really enjoyed our stay. We chose a room (56) on the 5th floor with a view along the lake overlooking Chateau Chillon and the distant hills. The room was very large, with fresh flowers, fruit and chocolates and the bathroom was delightful.

We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent, the only criticism being the aggravating habit of placing the wine just out of reach but not topping up our glasses when required! Ample free parking, some under cover. A place we would return to.

  • Liked — Wonderful position
  • Disliked — Placing wine out of reach!!
