“Perfect for overnight stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

We chose this place following reviews on Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed. We were offered a choice of two rooms, and chose the light painted one. We especially appreciated a bottle of water , and tea/coffee facilities. Facilities in our room and en suite were clean, if basic, but for an overnight stop, just perfect.
The welcome from the owners could not have been warmer, and we had a beautiful and copious breakfast the following morning. We were also recommended an excellent restaurant in Ardres. The price for our overnight stay was very good indeed.

“.....choose your room carefully - avoid "Sous Bois" and "Coquelicot"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

We arrived at 5pm and were met at the gate by Thierry who was emptying the bins - he told us his wife was in the garden. Françoise was in the overgrown garden of a detached 'cottage' but she ignored our arrival. Thierry returned and booked us in to 'Sous Bois' in the ‘cottage’ There are two rooms in the cottage, the other being "Coquelicot". All the windows were open despite it being cool for August and the room felt and smelt damp. The cottage is surrounded by trees and this affords little light and would account for the damp atmosphere. There was no heating - probably because of the time of year - though it would have been welcome. The bed was hard and felt cold and the furniture was cheap but cheerfully shabby chic. There is no wi fi and no TV in the room and the teamaking facility is poorly stocked and no coffee.
Breakfast in the main building was a friendly affair where guests chat to each other. Home made yoghurt, one small homemade bun and a couple of small slices of bread was the only fresh bread on offer and the homemade quince jam and pear puree was not to everyone’s taste. This was a poor breakfast compared to the many B&B's we have stayed in the past - admittedly these have been in the Ardeche and Provence region. The main house and garden were attractive and we did spend a pleasant hour there when the sun finally came out. I would only recommend this B&B to guests staying in the main building where inexplicably the rooms are cheaper.

“Wonderful place”

We stayed for the first time in Le Manoir de Bois en Ardres on our way to, and back from, London, one night each time. As soon as you arrive you feel well: wonderful setting, welcoming hosts, beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, delicious breakfast with a variety of homemade products. We will certainly return and warmly recommend this B&B, both as a stopover (only 20 min to the Calais ferry port) and as a place from which to discover the area. Good restaurants in nearby Ardres (La Griotte for a good meal or La Frégate, practical with children).

“Oasis of calm”

This is a haven of peace and calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the Pas de Calais. Charming hosts, home-made food and a delightful setting makes the Manoir a must for breaking journeys one thw way to wherever. We arrived later than expected but this did not diminish the most courteous welcome one might expect.

Clean, comfortable room, excellent value for money. The setting of the enclosed courtyard with large windows in mature parkland made the Manoir one ofthe nicest B&Bs I have used for a long time

“A romantic and lovely place near to the A26 north/south - great stop off!”

We stayed here on our way to Burgundy - we had a late afternoon crossing from Dover and then found our way to Le Manoir near the A26. We had not wanted to stay in Calais - we'd used travel inns before there and not been happy. So we wanted something more characterful as this time we were with my Brother and his family too. We found the owner Thierry to be very charming and very helpful too. The rooms were very comfortable and individual in their decor which made it more pleasant and personalised. Thierry booked us into a really lovely restaurant in the Ardres ['La Griotte'] a minute or two's drive where we had a really good meal. Breakfast was delightful and the coffee very welcome. We set off to get to the A26 again and made our way south after a good night's sleep!
