OK. So you have to book a crossing which means you need accommodation close to Calais? And you are not a fan of the hotel chain type places??? Well ponder no longer. I booked this from the Alistair Sawday Special Places site and, from now onwards, it's our overnight stop close to the ports. We booked the Cote du Jardin suite as there were 3 of us travelling down to the Somme - my dad, my son and I. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and simply but pleasantly decorated in typically French style. The hosts, Francoise and Thierry, were charming, delightful, communicative and clearly very proud of their place! The tour de force was the breakfast. I have enjoyed many splendid breakfasts in France but this has to have been the very best ever. Home made everything - yoghurt, jams, brioches, breads. It was the best breakfast i've eaten in my life!! This really is a special place....
