“No Heat!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

The Motel Luna was pretty but very, very cold. For November, we were freezing and had to layer with all of our packed clothing to keep warm. We originally booked for two nights and left early even though they would not refund our stay. I think that if we had stayed later we would have caught pneumonia and had to cancel our entire European vacation. I would not recommend saying here unless you are willing to bundle up and hunker down for the evening. Prepare to feel like you're camping in the Alps.

“Cheap and Clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

The Luna Motel is great value for money when the exchange rate is so poor against the Swiss Franc. We paid 70 chf per room per night. The motel is very basic with no on site breakfast or even hot drink facilities, but a small cafe is just across the road caters for snacks. The bedrooms
are clean but tired and the swimming pool has been closed for 2 years, but for a nights stay when going to Grindlewald it is fine. The assistant manager Charles is very helpful.

Room Tip: Ground floor is best with outside room parking

“Overbooking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

We booked a double room one month in advance via e-mail for three nights. The website said it is possible to book via phone or via email. On the date of booking also received the clarification mail from the Motel, everything looked good.

I called them one day before our arrival to check if we can use any hair dryer. The guy said we can just stay there for one day and the rest days are overbooked already. That means we have to stay in an other hotel and he could not find anything yet. He said he will try to find something for the rest 2 days. He was not successfull with the searching.

We wanted to stay only in one place. So, we had to book an other place one day before our arrival which was not the easiest and cheapest solution.

I thought e-mail clarification is enough. Without calling them perhaps we would just get this information about the overbooking on the day of arrival?

I would not recommend this Motel since the staff was not helpfull enough and did not share all the important information on time.

“Is cheap and clean, why not? (well if not too demanding and picking)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

Interlaken is one of my favorite places in the world and we always come back every year. Every year we stayed in different places always looking a cheap accomodation (specially nowadays with this well-known world financial crisis when every penny has to be spent carefully) well this time we ended up in this motel located in Wilderswil. Well, first of all is necessary to move with a car (if travelling with public transportation this is not the place to stay).

The location is in Wilderswil (a bit far from Interlaken but not too far if driving a car) is a good place to start for day trips to the mountains Lauterbrunnen, Grindewald, or back to Interlaken to visit other interesting areas close by both lakes.

Outside the entrance of the motel there are signs at the reception window with a phone number that have to call if wanted a room (the personel is not always present) and shows that the rate is Sfr45.00 p/p room only (no breakfast). The surroundings look abbandoned, the pool is out of order. Luckily somebody from the motel came by and we asked to show us the rooms. Is an American type motel where you can park the car directly in front of your room door.

The rooms are spacious, clean with clean sheets, has a sofa (or third bed), table, chair, seems furnished from the early 80's and never renewed since those days. There was a tv (not working!) and a radio. The bathroom was clean and in good shape (this bathroom was much better that the other economic hotel we stayed in Matten in the past) had enough toilet paper and clean towels. For meals, the restaurant "Luna Piccante" is just right in front of the motel and for breakfast nearby there is a bakery that offers coffee (or any other hot beverage) and croissant for Sfr 3.00, but since I like hearty breakfasts we preferred to go to downtown Interlaken.

I would say this is a good place to stay (just to sleep because there is nothing to do there in the surroundings) and safe some francs. Somebody suggested us to stay in hostels (but we are not so hostel type) or in tent (we saw an ad of a place that costs Sfr 33.00 p/p maybe to be considered in the future) since we are always looking a cheap place to stay but so far we found this motel really not too bad, a place to sleep like a hotel room and cheap why not?
