I regularly visit Wilderswil and my most recent visit was a short (four night) winter holiday in the Hotel Bären. This was also my first visit since the hotel transferred to new owners last year. I found the hotel to be very warm and clean, and I received a friendly welcome at reception. There was no problem accessing my room despite arriving somewhat earlier than I had anticipated, around midday. The hotel is located right in the heart of Wilderswil, and near to the "Dorf" (town) bus stop, making access from Interlaken West station very easy. It is only a 10 minute walk to Wilderswil train station, with regular connections up the valley to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen, or one stop in the other direction to Interlaken Ost. It is also possible to walk to Interlaken in about 40-45 minutes - a pleasant evening stroll with the option of getting the train back. I stayed as a bed-and-breakfast guest; breakfast was a pleasant buffet with plenty of choice of bread, rolls, cheeses, cereals etc. I elected to buy my evening meals in the hotel's public restaurant - the quality of the food was absolutely excellent and, if you are staying in the autumn or winter seasons I highly recommend the "kürbis" (pumpkin) soup, which comes with a most unusual scoop of pumpkin sorbet in a side dish. Service in the restaurant was extremely good; friendly and attentive.
In conclusion I had an extremely enjoyable winter holiday in the Bären. Wilderswil is very well located for transport links and a lovely base for an authentic Swiss holiday experience.
