Traquair House is an absolute "MUST" for people who love Schotland and castles! It is not an anonymous "Castle Hotel" with all standard 5-star amenities, but it is definitely a unique 5-star experience!
The house and grounds are well kept, rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable! I stayed in the "Pink Room", which is in the old part of the house, and next to the "High Drawing Room". In this room, you are literally "surrounded by Scottish history", but you can feel that the house is still alive, and not (just) a museum.
All the staff is very welcoming and helpful, and the delicious "Full Scottish Breakfast" with Traquair's own honey and marmelade will last until tea time.
The maze is great fun, and a walk through the surrounding woods on a sunny morning can be really enchanting! So, don't just plan to spend the night - you can easily stay a whole day and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this place!
I recommend this to everyone who is looking for something special!
It is not on the standard Scottish Highland-Trip route, but it's really worth to take a detour!
