“Laird of the Manor”

We stayed at Traquair on our last night in Scotland and it was a magical way to end our trip. The house and gardens are stunning and the museum is fascinating. But the best bit was having the house to ourselves over night. We stayed in the Pink Room in the oldest part of the house, with a stunning view over the maze. Traquair is not a fancy modern hotel, or a faux castle - what you see is what you get - creaky floors, faded linen on the original upholstery, time worn and stately. We loved it!

“The Best of All”

Of the 5 places we stayed in the U.K.- our favorite was Traquair. It was perfect for us - staff is Great, rooms are comfortable and big, we stayed in the white room which gave us lots of privacy and views. The breakfast offerings were excellent and the house has a very interesting past. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. They have local artisans there at certain times of the year displaying their methods and wares.
The town is close and has several pubs with good food and refreshments. There is a lot to see within a 1 - 2 hour drive
Definite return destination for us in the future.

Room Tip: There are only 3 and everyone is very nice. We did like the one we stayed in (White Room). End of wi...

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We chose Traquair House as a starting point for a 10 day tour of Scotland and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the pink room in the main house and it was truly fabulous; old style country house, huge room more of a suite really with lovely antique furnishings and views over the maze at the back of the house.

Staff were really friendly, breakfast is divine and this wonderful old house (more of a castle really) is so atmospheric to walk round. It is obvious that the staff take great pride in this lovely home and this shows in too many small ways to list here but it makes the whole experience very personal.

Loved every minute of our stay here, we are planning another grand tour next year and this will probably be the starting point again.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked great but the pink room is probably the nicest

“Countess for a day.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I like to include a stay at a special, historic place in my travels, and Traquair House was the one during my recent UK visit. Everything, from initial inquiry to booking, arrival, and departure, went flawlessly. Helen, the house caretaker, was friendly, helpful, and efficient. Same with the rest of the staff. I stayed in the White Room – luxurious in an old fashioned way and with modern conveniences. I especially liked the comfortable bed and the shower which was more a deluge than a shower. It’s definitely an accommodation fit for a countess or a count. Too bad I was a bit too tired to have made use of the guest drawing room – something to look forward on the next visit.
