“Clean, friendly, super”

When we approached the hotel the front had scaffolding up and it looked under repair, we didn't know what to expect! Upon entering, we found the hotel interior to be of the upmost standard. We were early and didn't expect to be able to check in, however, we were shown to our room (which had not yet been prepared). We were able to leave our bags in our room. The lady who cleans the rooms left her duties and rushed straight to our room. When we returned later we found our room to be to a very high standard of cleanliness. The bathroom passed my critical eye, it was spotless and the little touches of shower gel, shampoo and soap were a delight! We thought we would dine out and went to a pub down the road, which we were VERY dissapointed with! frozen, fried and cremated food! should have eaten at the hotel. We returned to the hotel and had the best irish coffee ever! The staff were SO friendly, especially the housekeeping lady from Liverpool, she went out of her way for us. We would certainly return. A TOP QUALITY HOTEL, WITH TOP QUALITY STAFF AND THE CLEANEST ROOMS EVER. WELL DONE.

Room Tip: All rooms are superb

“Nice food”

My wife and i were only here for the food but it was quite good. Thought the menu could have had a better selection of pub favourites but all in all, quite worth going to. Prices a little high as a steak pie is 9.95 but the decor inside is cozy and welcoming so didnt grumble paying that much.

“Good food at reasonable prices”

We didn't stay in the hotel, only ate in the restaurant so my review is based on food only. We gathered here for a family get-together (16 of us in total) and was surprised by the efficiency and quality of the food on offer. The portions are substantial, bordering on huge and the food may lack a little subtlety but at the decent prices on offer this is only a small quibble. I had the starter of warm venison and duck served with black pudding and small salad and mini poached apples. Very tasty. I followed this with the jerk chicken salad, which was a nicely spicy massive chicken breast with a fairly ordinary salad. I finished with a terrific pannacotta served with a fresh fruit salad in a brandy snap basket and a coffee. There is also a good selection of draft and bottled beers and a healthy selection of wines. Considering that our group consisted of so many the service was also very efficient and friendly.
I would have no hesitation returning here for more food and heartily recommend it to anyone passing that area.

“An excellent small hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

Our twin room was very spacious, with modern beech furniture and good quality furnishing fabrics, although drawer space was limited. The bathroom was also spacious - full size bath with a powerful shower.
Breakfast was what you'd expect from a good quality establishment - fruit juice, fresh fruit, cereal, and either a continental or cooked option. As an alternative to the tasty and substantial Scottish breakfast there was the Arbroath Smokie, served with a nicely poached egg and bacon. Toast and tea/real coffee, of course.
We enjoyed three meals in the restaurant, which offered quite a wide choice. We did go for the spicier options as we have found that traditional food in some Scottish hotels can be a little bland.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and appeared to enjoy their work.
All of this from a Scottish Tourist Board 3 Star Hotel. A very comfortable place to stay that offers very good value.

“A nice place but need some improvements”

The room was ok, but very noisy, the windows was broken and just tape insteand of replacing. It had a party in the hotel, and children plays in the room area, knocking at he door for the fun.

Dear Jaune12

Thank you for taking the time to review us on Tripadvisor.

I'm sorry for the disruption during your stay, we do hold a number of events where children are in attendance and on this occasion they managed to find there way to the guest bedrooms.

We are currently going through a refurbishment program, where the bedroom windows are being repaired and replaced along with secondary glazing to keep the noise level to a minimum.
