“Great for a relaxing holiday with children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2009

The hotel Riviera Marina is one of two hotels located on the beach. (The other one is not accepting children.) We stayed in room 3002, a family apartment with three rooms and a small kitchen. Very clean and nice kept. We had two balconies, one in the living room area and one in the master bedroom. The cleaning was good, and they even did our dishes once - I don´t think that was really included though. They were just so nice and welcoming! Everyone went out of their way to meet our every need. I wouldn´t hesitate to stay there again.
Playa del Cura is small, and I mean SMALL. There is a supermarket (somewhat expensive since they don´t really have any competition) and a few restaurants. And a shop that sells the usual; bath towels, watches, bags, bikinis... :) Not much else. If you want more, you take a taxi to Puerto Rico. The taxi ride will set you back 5-6 euros or so. The beach is quite small and often has a lot of rubbish lying around. You´re better off taking a swim in the hotel pool. The largest pool is nicely heated.

“Restart Your Hard-Drive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2009

Playa Del Cura isn´t exactly what you would call a complete leisure center. No, it is a place where you go for a good relaxing "feel-good" vacation. There isn´t much to do exept to be lazy around the pool area and swim in the ocean. As beeing a laywer I really appreciated the calmness and the sun and be able to forget all about the normal life. The hotel is suiteble for those who have travel experiance, though even if the staff is friendly and willing the hotel is not up to the standad of a five star.. The recent renovation shows a imaginary architehtual skill in making the most out of space and comfort. The room was spacious and had the twist with a shower cabin located in the middle of the room where you could watch the ocean while you take a shower. The view of the ocean and the mo-.untains are breathtaking. The beds are great for every sort of activity. The pool area are made up of one freshwater pool and one saltwater pool. Both are heated. I would recommend to include breakfast wich is rich and full. Half board and full board, which is avalible, would I strongly recommend that you avoid because apart from the breakfast the food is terrible on this hotel. That also goes for the bar and entertainment which only will suit you if you don´t care what you drink or what comes out of a speaker. Instead go to Puerto Mogan ( 10 min by taxi, 12 e, 15 min by bus 3. 50 e) where there are plenty of really good restaurants with a "slow food" concept. I could recommend the restaurant "Clipper". If You want to eat really good meat you are in for a treat in Playa del Cura who has one good restaurant - Guantanamo - And belive me the meat is fantastic. they also have a good varity of nice wines. To summon up: me and my wife had a really nice stay at the Riviera Marina where we found relaxation and a re-star of our "hard drives".

“7 day stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2008

Date 03 November 2008

40 minutes drive on the coach from the airport, check in ok and desk was courteous. We were on an all inclusive and had to wear a green wristband to show the staff but we noticed there were only two other people wearing them.
The room was very clean although the shower and toilet area is all glass screens, not very private...
We had a second floor room and there are five floors but with three lifts there were no problems.
We found the hotel to be quite clean, reading previous posts there must have been some changes between August and November. The only wildlife I saw were a couple of small lizards nera the pool,
The food though was very very basic although there was plenty of it. It was all laid out as a buffet service, the lunch was served at the snack bar next to the pool and there is a special menu for the all inclusive, one item on the inclusive menu said 'cocktail of the day' but when we asked for one we were told we would have to pay....
The beach at the rear of the hotel was all large boulders and you had to walk a few hundred yards to the small beach which was the dark sand type, parts of the sea had a strange colour when viewed from the room as if there were something being discharged into it.
Building work was being carried out near the beach with trucks and noise, the walk to the beach is quite narrow so children need to be aware of the vehicles.
Most of the people there were of the older generation and there were some disabled, this is not a place for young people who want a noisy holiday.
We had no problems with the staff when asking for drinks or snacks and thought that the all inclusive was worth the extra and we didn't need to carry any money with us.
I think one week was enough at this hotel and we were glad we didn't book 14 days, one German woman we spoke to, all were German or Scandinavian, said she had been going there for 23 years!!
