“Quirky funky hotel but too spare”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

"Art lodge" does accurately describe this hotel. Eclectic funky chandeliers n lots other decor make this a most unusual hotel. Problem is the room, food, service. AC not working in orig room so offered another room which smelled very musty. We returned to orig room n they fixed the ac. Clock not plugged in cuz cord too short. Faucet wobbly not properly installed. Dial 1 didnt work, reception not friendly, helpful or knowledgeable. Worst was the food. Arrived from airport so too tired to find a restaurant - decided to eat there. Fish was on verge of being spoiled - I'm gagging just thinking about it! I can't recommend this hotel, although I did enjoy looking at the funky chandeliers.

“If you want to sleep in quiet, this is not the place for you”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

I'm a bit puzzled by all the good reviews. We arrived at 1030 pm from the airport, after travelling all day. Yes, it is an unique, quaint place, however the rooms are situated around the lobby and bar/restaurant. Music was blasting until midnight and we could hear every word being said by patrons until 1 am (at which point i fell asleep from exhaustion so dont know how much longer it went on for). There is NO sound barrier. Overpriced for the quality of hotel. Our room was furnished nicely but was damp.

“Nice beginning and end”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We stayed here when we first arrived and when we were leaving Costa Rica. It was a very nice hotel with some amazing landscaping. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. The service was good and the food in their restaurant was very good (although a little pricey). As it was our first stop on our Costa Rican vacation, it really help to set the bar for the rest of our trip and we looked forward to going back when our vacation ended.

“A one of a kind hotel! We can't wait to come back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We took more pictures of the eclectic decor at the Corteza Amarilla than we did at any other location on our trip. Not only was the Corteza amazing to look at but it was a comfortable place to rest our heads. The breakfast we had at the hotel was terrific. Although we did not have dinner at the Corteza we could tell it was the place to come for dinner as the dinning area was filled with people clearly enjoy themselves!

“BEST HOTEL AND SERVICE IN COSTA RICA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

I stayed at Corteza Amarilla for just over 3 months this past rain season while doing an internship within Ciudad Colon. I travelled throughout Costa Rica those three months and can say hands down you will not find a better hotel than Corteza Amarilla! The staff is absolutely amazing and will stop at nothing to help you! The food is incredible, the rooms are beautiful and the location is perfect. Just a quite secure area and close to downtown San Jose. The beds are extremely comfortable. They are extremely environmentally friendly which is always a bonus! The staff really became my family while I was out there and if I ever return to Costa Rica this is the only place I will ever stay at. If your not planning on staying the night you must stop by for dinner. The lighting and unique artwork creates an amazing atmosphere in the evenings. Gorge, the hotel owner is one of the most friendliest people you will ever meet and if you get a chance have a good talk with him because he always has great stories to share!!

Thank you for everything Corteza! I miss you guys already!

Kim!
