Let's start with the positives, the Golf is in a superb location at the foot of the slopes with boot room and hire shop on site making the hotel practically ski in / ski out and the bar staff were top notch.
Most of the hotel has had a decent refurb giving it a nice, modern ambience but some areas have been ignored. The corridors for example wouldnt look out of place in somewhere like an F1 budget hotel.
The rooms carry on in the same vein. Nice new bed with nasty old headboard covered in scratches and a wardrobe unit that must be 20 years old.
Housekeeping similar. Didn't come at all on one of the four days we were there. As an example of lack of attention to detail, a previous occupant had stuck a sticker on the side of the wardrobe, it was still there when we left, and presumably still is.
Breakfast continues the theme. Despite having booked breakfast inclusive, we were asked whether we had a wristband to enter the restaurant (we didn't) and with a sigh of indifference the chap at the desk would note our room number down as if we'd rather inconvenienced him. Food itself was reasonably good for buffet fare.
Needless to say, further charges for breakfast were there on our bill when we came to check out along with a double charge for the rather expensive New Years dinner. Cue more shrugs, sighing and generally reluctant efforts to trim best part of £400 from the bill from the three assembled staff.
Reprinting a correct bill was obviously too much trouble for Bruno so a copy of the original incorrect bill was ours.
If you're happy to take your chances with the service and don't expect your custom to be appreciated, then the location makes this a good choice in 1800.
