“If going to Kanha think no more.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

My husband booked this hotel for our Wildlife MP trip where we were covering Pench-Kanha-Bandhavgarh. He selected the hotel based on the TripAdvisor rating and the hotel website.
The entrance to the place made me doubt the place as it has a village-feel to it. The great experience started with an unusual and tasty guava drink. The property looked great with nice greenery all around and great looking newly constructed cottages.

Out cottage was spacious, clean, aesthetically decorated with great bathroom. Great Bathrooms are must for any place to be cleaned as great. So the bathroom is freshly done and is pretty spacious. I can easily compare it to the Taj Bathrooms, was even better in some respect.

The cottage is huge. Bed and beddings were comfortable. Room decor was great.

The food and the service is just great. I don't know who has trained the staff on hospitality. They made us feel really special and nice. I over-ate on all occassions. It was hard to refuse them when they serve this nicely.

The property is great. They have a huge water body behind the main compound. It's so nicely maintained. They even have sugarcane field there. We spent good 3-4 hours exploring the property. Felt so close to the nature as we sat in the sun-set with birds chirruping. It was pure bliss.

The staff would tell us stories about tigers, their lifestyle. They seemed very knowledgeable. That was a bonus

We haven't tipped more on any of our visit. It was simply great.

“The Baagh, Kanha National Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2008

We visted Kanha National Park in January 2008, staying at The Baagh for 3 nights. In each of Junior Suite have open views with the reservoir. The Bathroom have rain shower in clubiales with the separate tub with solar water heating systems & hairdryer. The Rooms, balconies & bathrooms with Katni marble flooring. The resort staff were extremely helpful and eager to please. During our visit we had 5 private jeep safaris and 2 elephant rides. The elephant rides to see the sightings by the park officials, but we had an elephant ride each morning. We had 3 tiger sightings during our stay and have some excellent close up photos. We also saw a sloth bear early in the morning, 3 kinds of deer & indian bison, wild boar, leopard and lots of birds.

“Good food, good rooms and great people.”

We knew of Pench Jungle Lodge, see review, and the Singh family's other properties, so it was natural that we took a booking at the other jewels in their crown. We were not disappointed in anyway. Elder Brother, Col. Shyam Singh, himself a naturalist of repute, made us very welcome at what was in fact his own home. The "Resort" (an Indian term and the close equivalent of "Lodge " in Africa) was newly built and laid out in the style of a small village. The spacious gardens are modelled on the Singh's star property at Bharatpur, also reviewed. 25,000 fruit and flowering trees have been planted and the grounds are becoming a wildlife haven with Francolin and other birds. We never met the resident pair of Bengal foxes. Rainwater is harvested and used for irrigation both in the gardens and on the nearby 'farms'. Reception is the old farmstead on the roadside and thus the 'village' is somewhat screened from the outside world. There are good views over the adjoining pastoral land and the villages of the tribal peoples nearby.
There is a central spacious and well equipped restaurant with cottages/houses on either side. Each 'house' is in fact three self contained units with beds and bathroom facilities en suite as well as comfortable settees/couches. Air conditioning is standard as Indian summers come very hot indeed. There are plans for a welcome swimming pool.
The resident chef prides himself on providing much variety in his Menus and during our seven night stay we never had the same dishes twice.
The Resort is about 15 minutes drive from the Mukki Gate of Kanha through one or two small Indian villages. Some visitors may feel this adds to the journey time but we found it most interesting and far preferred this place to the complex of other Lodges clustered around the Reserve Gate. The twice daily drive was all part of the overall Indian experience in this very pleasant rural area.
The resort has its own Gypsies for Game drives and competent and well informed Naturalists and drivers. Two drives per day were the norm. The first at 5.30 which ended for lunch and the second at 15.30. Picnics are provided,

  • Liked — Its pleasant Indian village ambience.
  • Disliked — The footpaths could be better illuminated at night although torches and escorts are provided.
