We stayed at the Houton Bay Lodge while we were touring Scotland and the Orkney's for a month. The Houton Lodge was lovely, clean, and the staff very attentive. Dinner was excellent - lots of local fare, excellently prepared. Our host, Lynda had just returned from unexpected dental surgery - but would not take a break until she was sure we were all settled, fed and had arranged for alternate staff to be sure we had everything we needed. We would recommend it to anyone heading to the Orkney's.

The service was first class, nothing staff wouldnt do for you, all very helpful.
Room was excellent, very clean.
the location was great, 15 min from kirkwall and stromness, ferry to Hoy within walking distance.
Overall great stay, staff very friendly, food excellent, room lovely.

My partner and i had a very pleasant stay here for several nights. We had the priviledge of staying in the honeymoon suite which is very spacious and has everything you could possibly want.
We did not dine here as we did not get breakfast included and were off exploring for the rest of the day, so i cannot rate the food. Also from previous reviews on tripadvisor i was not overly eager to eat here.
Whilst the people who run the place are perfectly nice, conversations got a little uncomfortable at times with the main woman especially after she told us that we had to get married. Also, she informed us her gardner had broken his hip that day, but we later saw a man gardening who looked very much like a gardner, so were a little confused by this.
Other than that, it was great! Highly recommend it, although if you don't like things too close and personal, try keeping under the radar of the main woman.

The place is an absolute gem.Excellent people, great location the view.Amazing food.Most facilities such as wifi internet bar gameing all available within the lodgeThe warmth of the staff will not want u leave the place.
Highly recommended to people of all age group young old teens couples singles to all the feel is such a family feel there.
one visit is a must.
