I have never written a report before on hotels visited. Myself, husband and 11 year old son visited Sri Lanka in November 2010. Although seasoned travellers, and I myself have backpacked around the world for 2 years we had not visited this country and were all very excited. We spent ages deciding on which hotel to stay at and the Indurua looked very nice in the Mercury brochure! How misled we were. Brochures can be deceiving and ratings on trip advisor very inaccurate.
After an extremely long journey we arrived at the hotel and looking at it from the outside I honestly thought I had been sent to prison for two weeks rather than on holiday. When inside this clarified my thoughts. Oh my goodness what have we done were my words to my husband and son!
I agree totally with the negative remarks left by the people who have just returned and that is why after all this time I felt it important to make people aware that this hotel has not improved over time. I have stayed in many three star hotels in very poor countries and non have been as bad as this one. The only plus for the hotel is the location but nothing else. Everyone complained whilst we were there and the rep was totally useless. Only interested In selling trips and making the money. This holiday we all lost weight as the food was dreadful and no choice for my poor son. No snacks throughout the day if you missed so called lunch, drinks dreadful with no choice at all, no entertainment in the evenings and nowhere nice to relax. Rooms old and dingy and patio doors were corroded and locks broken. Certainly not safe if you have young children.
Reading the negative reports brought all the memories back to me. Obviously very little has changed and this is sad to see as this hotel would put everyone off Sri Lanka for life, which is dissapointing as it is a lovely country to visit and i am told it also has many nice hotels! Iwas disappointed with mercury direct when travelling to sri lanka at the time and am still dissapointed that they are advertising this hotel in their brocure with most facts incorrect.eg snacks throughout the day, entertainment etc. and it is not cheap either. I am sure if their management team visited this hotel and had to endure two weeks there they would not be rating it a three star!
I hope this information helps anyone visiting Sri Lanka. Please do investigate your hotel and make sure you make the right choice with accommodation and travel company. unfortunately we did not!!!!
