We stayed two nights in early August. Joerg was an excellent host, meeting us at the door, carrying up the luggage, offering helpful travel advice, and preparing a great breakfast (twice!). St. Peter's is small town, but has its own attractions and restaurants, including Tim Horton's. Heading up island to the Fortress of Louisburg took a day. This B&B has a nice decor, with each room done in a different theme. The bed wasn't overly comfortable though...

I stayed at Canal House on June 11, 2011. It was extremely clean, the owner was welcoming and the breakfast he made me was outstanding (catered to my vegetarian request, easily better than any hotel breakfast). Highly recommended.

What a great find. We arrived without a reservation and Joerg happily showed us the only available room. Normally we would only accept a room with an ensuite but the Nicholas Denys room is bright and clean and the private bathroom is just across the hall. We loved the individual duvets as that is what we use at home after many trips to Europe. After almost 8 weeks travelling, this felt a lot like home. Stephanie set the table for us to eat our dinner (bought at the local supermarket) as we were tired of restaurants even though there are great choices in the village. Fresh fruit ,a wonderfully fluffy omelette and good coffee for breakfast. Charming hosts and a pretty area around the canal with good walking made for a very enjoyable one night stay.

Located within walking distance of the marina and St. Peters Canal, this B&B is the best that I have experienced. The recently renovated house is clean, bright, cheery and a home away from home. Jeorg and Stephanie treated me as one of the family rather than a customer during my multiday stay. They are very knowledgeable about the Cape Breton area. Others have commented on the quality of the breakfasts, and I concur. They were varied and excellent. I recommend the Canal House to travelers arriving by land or water.
