We stayed at The Inn during a recent tour of the Highlands and were so pleased with the experience we just had to write a review. Not something I would normally ever consider but it was that good!

Don't get me wrong, this is a 2 star hotel - not a 5 star resort, but what they deliver by way of service and and quality of customer care is first class.

The food was consistently good and the staff went out of their way to cater for my vegetarian wife.

There was a lovely warm atmosphere and nice choice of music playing. I had a long chat with the owner about her love of food and the importance of using quality local produce. Right down to the organic coffee that she is so enthusiastically promoting.

The hotel itself is very pretty, resting beside the river, (the name of which I forget) and the room though simple was clean and a good size with en-suite facilities.

Before I wrote this review I was surprised to notice that 2 people who stayed at the same time as us were so scathing in their reviews....and then I remembered the group! Most of them were lovely but I do recall a couple complaining at the bar that they couldn't camp and had been asked to pay for their meals. My advice - ignore them! We couldn't have been made more welcome and the breakfast was wonderful by the way.

Good luck to the new owners - I hope they continue to do such a great job! We'll be back!

No Highland hospitality here,I understand this place is under new management however the new management have much to learn about how things are done in Scotland.
I have travelled extensively and it is a rare occurance to be asked to pay before even seeing the room.
The atmosphere in the hotel was awful with a feeling that we were somehow intruding rather than be paying guests.
I was glad to leave the place in the morning and certainly will never be back,perhaps we were unlucky or the fact that the new owners had just taken over but certainly not the place for a relaxing break.

I have never arrived at any hotel before to be told that everything had to be paid upfront!!, that made me feel like a criminal. Breakfast in the morning was a totally awful experience, with an option of bacon, rock hard fried eggs and crumpets!!!!!!!, everything seemed too much effort for the staff. I was in a party who had booked 12 rooms and certainly will not advise anyone to spend a night there

We decided to take an impromptu winter weekend break in the Highlands and stumbled upon The Inn at Loch Ericht, set in the most stunning, "Monarch of the Glen" countryside.

On the drive up, the snow bgean to fall but we made it to the hotel in time before it really started to lie thickly, and settled in at the cozy bar to watch the flakes fall as we huddled up in front of the gorgeous roaring fire.

The food was simple, but good and a few really nice 'specials' on the blackboard. In particular the chicken breast stuffed with rich black pudding, drizzled in whiskey Jus and served with fresh local vegetables was a real treat. They also have something of a reputation for their steak, which is local and they are proud of the fact.

The whole hotel is warm and comfortable, with a welcoming atmsophere. Our room was a great size, specifically for families which was a treat compared to some of the tiny rooms hotels try to squeeze familes into these days.

Breakfast was just as the owner had promised; an unmissable full scottish breakfast that set us up for a cold day exploring.

The scenery in the region is breath taking and the arctic blue light of early dusk on the snowy mountains and long deep valleys is something to see.

The big treat was to see what must have been at least 100 head of wild deer that had come down to feed on the hillside next to the hotel. It took our breath away.

We will definitely be back in the spring and have found great places to mountain bike, fish and windsurf.

We can thoroughly recommend The Inn at Loch Ericht for its location, warm hospitality, good food and value for money.
