“Really impressed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed here with my partner as part of a stop gap whilst travelling for business. The grounds are gorgeous and there was ample parking which always comes as a bonus.
Our room was pleasant but rather compact and bijou. It would suit one person, but we found it a little cramped for two. I've never had to try to manouvre in such a small shower space in all my life! That said the room was nicely decorated with attention to detail and soft furnishings taken care of.
We ate in the restaurant that night, but found the food to be only average and no better than what you would get in a pub. I was surprised at the very small restaurant, but that actually added to the atmosphere so wasn't a negative.
I would have rated this a five, but the let down was our extremely hot bedroom that had a radiator that could not be adjusted. This meant that sleep was greatly interrupted as we were constantly having to throw the covers off to get cool. This was despite having the window open!
Overall I really loved the De Vere experience and think that this establishment certainly has a lot to offer especially for weddings. Given the opportunity, I would definitely stay again and hopefully next time get a room that is larger with an adjustable radiator.

Room Tip: Some rooms are small, but I believe there are larger ones available on request.

Dear Jenny

Thank you for posting your feedback on your recent stay at Warbrook House. I am delighted that overall you were really impressed with your stay, although disappointed to see that you felt the food at best was only average, generally as you will see from other recent reviews our food is well rated. I've asked our maintenance engineer to find a solution to guests being able to control the orginal radiators.

I am so pleased you loved the De Vere experience and do hope you get to try some of our other great properties we have up and down the country.

Kind regards

Gillian Roe

“Clean but small room, pleasant staff, lacking in leisure facilities and a little isolated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here for three nights in late January as part of De Veres special £11pppn promotion .Check in was efficient we were early but the room was ready? Our room was in the main house ( there are also rooms in a lodge close to the main house) the room was quite small and in the Eve's of the roof . No view as obscured by a roof immediately infront of the window. Reasonable facilities in the room but a single wardrobe and no drawers. When booking was aware that their may have been no restaurant or bar facilities available if a function was on. Thankfully none were booked! We tried the restaurant on one night and it turned into a catalogue of errors! Booked a table but restaurant staff had given it away, waited 50 mins to be finally seated ( we're given an apology and a round of drinks for our wait, asked for sparkling water and got still, brought wrong puddings and got the bill wrong, but the staff were lovely and the meal was pleasant and reasonably priced. If you are staying here for an event such as a wedding or business function then the facilities such as the free flowing coffee are excellent, but the lack of leisure facilities such as a gym or pool and the basic inability To use bar or restaurant should you not be part of a function would significantly affect your stay. Overall for the money we payed this was good value, but if paying full tariff the size of the room and limited facilities would influence a return visit!

Dear Guest

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I was so sorry to read that dinner service during your stay was not as smooth as it should have been. We have already gone back through the evening and identified where we could have made improvements and have taken the approriate actions to do this. I was pleased, however, to read that you felt the meal was pleasant and reasonably priced.

I do acknowledge that when we have a wedding or large function on the restaurant and bar are generally unavailable in the main house, however, we do recommend a number of local pubs and restaurants locally and if there is a group of guests wishing to eat then we can always utilise our Grange restaurant as an alternative venue.

Kind regards

“Nice little escape.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Needed an overnight near Reading but only somewhere to park our weary bodies after a day out and about.
Having looked around and found a number of sites I came across the De Vere chain of hotels and in particular Warbrook House.
So having had a glance at the review, pictures and prices it seemed a good bet so I went ahead and booked understanding the bar and restaurant would be closed so booked a table in the local pub.

So to the review and what can I say :
Positives:
- House is spectactular and a lovely approach.
- Ample parking (perhaps as no weddings on)
- Nice old charm and character whilst being modern and fresh
- Nicely decorated room (albeit a little dark and lacking lighting)
- Nice modern bathrooms
- Great value for money
- Restaurant turned out to be open and food looked and smelled delicious but we had booked the pub so gave it a miss this time.

Neutrals
- Rooms size was a tad smaller than expected for a Superior room and outlook was on a roof of a lower part of the building. (Other rooms seemed much much bigger)
- Bathroom was very small and shower was only just big enough to stand still in, no chance of a good wash as no elbow or turning room in a triangular shower. (No bath :( )
- Reception not as attentive as hoped on arrival, took a full 30 seconds before they looked up to acknowledge from doing their paperwork. (Thought it could have been quicker)

Negatives
- Television had poor reception and unfortunately could not be fixed but Hotel came good and refunded a partial contribution against room as could not move us elsewhere as fully booked.
- Room was like a Sauna and was so hot it was unbearable, but open window and a kindly provided fan helped with circulating the cooler air (Not what you would expect for January)
- Checkout was slow and painful with a long queue of people all checking out at 11am. Either two members of staff needed or a later checkout time to stop the rush. (Most people would be gone by 12)

Summary
- Great value for money
- Great location, tucked away but very accessible
- Fantastic old property full of character
- Avoid if there is a wedding as I image it would be a lot less pleasant to stay unless you were a guest at the wedding.

Rooms were pleasant in the main house and nicely decorated but

Room Tip: Ask for one of the main house rooms and see if you can get a larger room with a view.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent visit to Warbrook with the Trip Advisor community. I am pleased that on the whole you enjoyed your stay at Warbrook and that where things weren't quite right that the team took action to make amends. However, notwithstanding this, I shall share your particular comments with the reception team, I know they will be disappointed to hear that they didn't extend the great British hospitality we are so proud of in De Vere Venues.

A few of the bedrooms in the main house are shower only but there other rooms with both bath and shower. Generally when we have a wedding on, the wedding party take all of the bedrooms in the main house and other guests are located in the Grange which is free from the function noise that can disturb late at night.

I do hope that you will try some of our sister venues too this year especially as we're about to launch our Spring break offers.

With kind regards

“Beautiful setting and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Booked a very last minute stay, on a good value, dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
I usually book De Veres on the web, but the site was down, so booked by phone - was pleasantly surprised, a friendly, helpful and personal service - no hours of pressing button one, two, three...... other chains, take note!
The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. We were given a room in The Grange - the new block a few minutes walk from the main building - very comfy, good size, very clean and well furnished. Nice lounge area with the usual coffee machines.
Dinner in the main house was good, very pleasant serving staff and again very comfortable surroundings.
Will definately visit again - especially when the deals are on!

“Enjoyed our stay at Warbrook House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

This was our second time at the hotel. We got an incredible deal through the De Vere's website and took advantage of it. This time we were in the main house as opposed to the Grange where we were last time. Our room was comfortable and clean. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the beds could be larger and have taken on board the Manager's reply that some rooms have larger beds which we will request next time.

We found that the hotel was not well signposted (our Satnav had "died" well before we got there) and was not easy to find in the dark. Other local hotels were signposted.

The breakfast is good value but I would have liked natural yogurt with my fruit, rather than raspberry.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They even charged up the Satnav for us.

For the amount we paid, this was fantastic value and we will certainly keep our eyes on the De Vere's website for another good deal.

Dear Jane

Thank you for your positive feedback from your stay with us this month. I take on board your comments about signage and we will look into improving this in the future. As you say in your review it really is worth signing up to De Vere Venues e-mail alerts as our special offers are very special and sell out incredibly quickly!

We look forward to welcoming you back to Warbrook again in the future.
