“lovely building,comfortable stay”

Booked as a much needed relaxing weekend away for my birthday. Found the hotel to be warm and welcoming. We spent our evenings in the local village, at the Red Lion pub, friendly and good food and staff. Can thoroughly recommend The Raft local restaurant, gorgeous food and friendly, welcoming staff. Didnt eat in the hotel restaurant so can't comment on that. Breakfast however, was enjoyable.
Absolutely loved our stay and didnt want to go home! The only slight criticism would be that the paintwork in the room needed a good scrub or repaint! .
Otherwise the room was lovely, everything you need from a standard room. a good size, comfortable bed and bedding.
Would stay again.

“Struggling against the tide?”

We stayed with the Telegraph offer, which the hotel offers itself at times. We were happy with the value of £95 for half board, but the hotel does not show itself off as a place one would stay for full price at peak times and prices.
The radiator in our room did not work, so they provided an electric heater when we told them. They should either fix it or say when we arrive that there is an electric heater in the room because the radiator doesn't work.
We are tight enough to make coffee in our own room, but don't expect to crawl on the floor to plug the kettle in.
The room is plenty high enough, so why place the main lampshade so low that I, no giant, hit it with my head 6 times during our overnight stay?
The Cottage Room was spacious with a view over the car park.
The bed was large and comfortable.
We enjoyed our evening meal in the Vista restaurant, where we were joined by only one other couple
The cooked part of breakfast was generally fine, though my wife would smother her own cooked tomato with pepper if she did not really like the flavour, and would rather the chef left it alone.
The breakfast buffet was so meagre that a bowl of white sugar and another of brown sugar were there to try to fill up the space.
There were no croissants, rolls, pastries, porridge, ham or cheese, and there was no suggestion from the menu or staff that these could be provided upon request.
The fresh fruit was a small bunch of grapes, some rather firm sliced melon and one grapefruit which had been sliced.
There was a limited choice of cereal, some yogurt and a few other bits, but overall I have never seen a weaker buffet in any hotel or B&B.
We only saw 2 other couples arrive for breakfast, so it must be important to avoid food waste, but if you don't look after the few customers you have got (even in January) then they won't recommend the hotel to friends.
With the exception of the breakfast service, the staff were very helpful.

Room Tip: The Cottage Room (room 21) is a good size for a standard room, though lacks a sea view. We previous...

“OUR RECENT STAY AT WESTOVER HALL”

We have just returned from our most enjoyable stay in Westover Hall. We intended to stay for two nights, the objection was to visit a friend, but we were so impressed with the location, food and staff that we stayed another night. We only wish we could have stayed longer. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was almost like staying with family. The room was excellent, very clean and comfortable and it had everything we needed. We had a sea view and could see the Isle of Wight and the needles from our window. From the garden and patio area you could walk directly on to the beach and the sea wall which we walked on each morning after breakfast. It was an easy fllat walk suitable for anyone. The food was excellent and just the right portion size. We brought our friend to the hotel for the evening meal as it was her birthday. The waiter who serving us that evening made a great fuss of her even getting the recipe for the starter she had as she liked it so much. All in all, no complaints just praise for a well run, first class value for money hotel. We shall certainly go back.

Room Tip: We asked to see a superior room and next time we go we will probably book one of them as they are be...

“Lovely Old Grade2 Listed Victorian Mansion”

We booked through a deal with The Daily Telegraph, One Night Accommodation, 2 Course Dinner and Full English Breakfast for 2 people for £95.
The Hotel is a beautiful building & is in a lovely location on the sea front. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the Sommelier.
Unfortunately, I ended up paying well in excess £100 on drinks and a third course that evening!
Our room was unfortunately located at the front of the hotel overlooking the road, however it wasn't noisy. We could have paid to upgrade to a room with a sea view, but as it was December and pouring with rain, foggy & cold there was not much point.
The room itself was comfortable and adequate, however it was in need of decorating, paint was peeling from the ceiling.
The bathroom was in desperate need of complete refurbishment and also cold.
The food in the restaurant was of a good standard and the staff were very helpful. However we were originally given a table by the window overlooking the sea, but after five minutes we asked to move because it was so cold. A couple who came into the restaurant just after us were also shown to the same table and they also asked for an alternative table.
In conclusion I would not like to have stayed in really cold weather conditions but in summer
it must be lovely.

“Fabulous quirky comfortable hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed here for one night, in room 7, very spacious, with wonderful sea views. Had a delicious dinner in the bistro - my partner could have eaten more, if you have a healthy appetite you definitely need 3 courses. Breakfast the next morning was perfectly presented and delicious. What a place to stay and what a location.

Room Tip: Room 7, very spacious and sea view
