We went to Hillbark Hotel for New Years Eve. We were all in the big hall when we first arrived and there was complimentry champagne and canapes. After an hour when most people had arrived we were herded through to the marquee which was decorated beautifully and had some sofas in the corner and several round tables seating 8 or possiblly 10. By the time our party of 6 got through to the marquee all the tables had people sitting on them and there was none with 6 seats left so we could sit together so we pulled two tall tables together with bar stools and we were ok. Then we were served bacon batch with cones of chips, all very nice but no napkins or plates so we were left with greasy fingers trying not to get grease on our best clothes. At midnight there was a beautiful fireworks display to music. When we returned to our table a group had moved onto it. Apparently Hillbark had not provided enough tables or seats for all the numbers and some people had been left to stand. This group obviously thought that they would take our seats and we wouldn't take them on as we are all in our 50's. WRONG!
After the fireworks a hog roast buffet was served but by then most of us felt it was too late to eat any more so although it looked very nice we didn't try it.
Some very young children were wandering around, one maybe as young as 2, and it really wasn't appropriate with people getting drunk and dropping wine glasses on the dance floor. I couldn't relax for worrying about these kids falling on broken glass.
The hotel itself is beautiful as are the grounds and gardens. The staff were all pleasant and the food looked nice but I wouldn't go back for a New Years Eve.
