“New Years Eve Ball”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We went to Hillbark Hotel for New Years Eve. We were all in the big hall when we first arrived and there was complimentry champagne and canapes. After an hour when most people had arrived we were herded through to the marquee which was decorated beautifully and had some sofas in the corner and several round tables seating 8 or possiblly 10. By the time our party of 6 got through to the marquee all the tables had people sitting on them and there was none with 6 seats left so we could sit together so we pulled two tall tables together with bar stools and we were ok. Then we were served bacon batch with cones of chips, all very nice but no napkins or plates so we were left with greasy fingers trying not to get grease on our best clothes. At midnight there was a beautiful fireworks display to music. When we returned to our table a group had moved onto it. Apparently Hillbark had not provided enough tables or seats for all the numbers and some people had been left to stand. This group obviously thought that they would take our seats and we wouldn't take them on as we are all in our 50's. WRONG!
After the fireworks a hog roast buffet was served but by then most of us felt it was too late to eat any more so although it looked very nice we didn't try it.
Some very young children were wandering around, one maybe as young as 2, and it really wasn't appropriate with people getting drunk and dropping wine glasses on the dance floor. I couldn't relax for worrying about these kids falling on broken glass.
The hotel itself is beautiful as are the grounds and gardens. The staff were all pleasant and the food looked nice but I wouldn't go back for a New Years Eve.

“Fantastic all round beautiful hotel”

I would highly recommend Hillbark Hotel for its service, attention to detail, food and accommodation. I stayed recently and the bedrooms were amazing.
Staff are very attentive, and the food in the bar and grill is amazing.
there's also a Spa there for a treatment.

I also hold a function even in the marquee and couldn't fault the help and support form im and all the staff at Hillbark. I would definitely recommend this hotel for weddings, functions, conferences, or even just for a great weekend away close to Liverpool and Chester.

“Best day of our lives made possible by Hillbark and its staff.”

We arranged our wedding for 30/9 at Hillbark. We had the most amazing day being lucky with the freakishly nice weather and getting married outside in the beautiful gardens.
Rebecca who worked for the hotel was amazing helping organise every aspect of the day / night.
The food was excellent and all our guests seemed to have an amazing time from the ceremony and meal in the afternoon to the party in the marquee in the evening.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hillbark for an occasion to anybody....

“Staff Are lovely Unlike the Owner who is rude and unprofessional”

The hotel is a lovely building in a lovely are and the majority of the staff are friendly and helpful especially the front desk and housekeeping. however on numerous occasions are stay was rudely interrupted by a male swearing an being abusive to the staff members who we now know to be the owner of the hotel. The food in the hotel is above average but nothing worth raving home about and I would never stay there again in future I would stay at the near by Thornton hall where I have always had pleasant stays.

“Ruined what should of been the best day of our lives.”

Hillbark ruined what should of been the best day of our lives.
We would never recommended anyone to put such an special day in there hands.
We booked our wedding with hillbark as we loved the fact it was close to our home and we could enjoy returning for our anniversary s. However we can honestly say we would never step foot in the place again.
Imagine your worst nightmare for your wedding day standing there waiting for a car that never arrived to take you to church. Yes this happened my wife ended up 40 minutes  late for our wedding as hillbark forgot to send it.
We can say this completely ruined our wedding not only was the bridal party late , but it upset everyone involved. You plan so hard for your wedding day and this is just utter incompetence on a wedding venues part.  This caused the whole day to run late and even ruined our honeymoon as my wife was so devastated by the whole shambles. We had no master of ceremony, no drink for our toast we toasted with empty glasses our wedding planner went home before the evening started. oh and here comes the best bit the evening staff forgot our evening food, when it finally came it was that late our guests had left.
the staff could not of cared less and looked like they had been dragged in last minute to help.
We couldn't even enjoy our room and sleep afterwards due to the fact there was a television or radio blurring out all night , we could not wait to leave the venue in the morning. We have to be honest we where given extra wine on the day because of the car but this really does not make up for the fact that our day was ruined by hillbark. We have had no apology and no compensation. And now have learnt that we are not the only people to have had a bad experience with them . Our advice stay well away from what looks like the perfect venue.
